There will be many big concerts this summer. But this will be the biggest.
Live Earth is a worldwide series of Live Aid-style concerts taking place July 7, to raise awareness about global warming, and earn some money for the cause. It was announced this morning that the United States portion of Live Earth will take place at Giants Stadium, and superstars from the worlds of pop, rock, hip-hop and country have already signed up for it.
The Police, Bon Jovi and the Dave Matthews Band will be among the artists playing at the Meadowlands. Joining them will be Roger Waters, Alicia Keys, Fall Out Boy, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, John Mayer, KT Tunstall, Ludacris, Melissa Etheridge, Rihanna, AFI, Akon, and Smashing Pumpkins.
Proceeds will go to The Alliance for Climate Protection and other organizations. "We hope the energy created by Live Earth will jump start a massive public education effort," Live Earth co-chair Al Gore said, in a press statement. "Live Earth will help us reach a tipping point that's needed to move corporations and governments to take decisive action to solve the climate crisis."
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday through Ticketmaster. Prices were not immediately available. For more information, visit LiveEarth.MSN.com.
Wembley Stadium, near London, will also host a show, featuring artists such as Madonna, Genesis, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Other shows are scheduled for Sydney's Aussie Stadium; Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach; Johannesburg's Cradle of Human Kind; Tokyo's Tokyo Stadium; and the Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai.
