Little League World Series

theres some black kid that pitches for NY and is like 13 and is 6' 1. HOLY CRAP! he was throwing 76 mph, and their plate is only 45 feet away. i cant even imagine being 13 yrs old and facing that kinda dude!

i guess earlier in the series he threw a perfect game and struck out like 16 of 18 batters.

thats what i was thinking when i was watching it today, they all throw curveballs.

i think i started when i was that age too though, ever 13 yo wants to throw the duece

If he can throw 75 mph why even bother with a curveball at that age? No one will be able to hit his fastball anyway.
When I was in Little League we had a guy that threw in the high 60's but he didn't have enough of a motion. He used nothing but his arm. By the time he got to high school he had so much arm trouble that he couldn't throw overhand. He had to throw sidearm.

I was a phenom pitcher at a young age...Like this kid. From the age of 12-16 I was unhittable. It was my gift. No allstar team was complete without my arm. Because of this it seemed like I was oitched every game. By the time I was 16 I was done. One day I just had excrutiating pain. It was over faster than it began. Started curves at 11. By the time I was seventeen I was no longer able to throw a ball five feet. I still to this day can't throw. I hope this kid from the Bronx doesn't go through the same thing.

in little league we were never allowed to throw curves - I remember being envious of the dudes in the world series.
I got kicked out of... shit, I don't even know how many games - at least 10 - all because I could throw 80mph in 8th grade (and never got any better - oh well), but when I threw as hard as I could, the ball moved all over the place.
the ump would then walk up to the mound and say "you know you have to cut that out" then the coach would walk up and defend that I really had no idea what I was doing and wasn't intentionally throwing curves.

if I hadn't been thrown out all of the time, I think I would have had more no hitters - hee hee, big time little league stud. I was 5'11" in 8th grade and probably 120lbs. I always loved Ramon Martinez b/c he made me think I had a shot.
I had 2 no hitters, one legit (the second one) and the other was funny - my first two pitches went 1) over the backstop and hit the stand where they sold hot dogs (LOUD!!) and then pitch 2) behind the batter and into the other teams dugout... straight out of Major League (used to love that movie, could identify with Sheen... except I was never cool).
The coach saw I was wild and told his team not to swing at any of my pitches. I then proceeded to calm down and struck out every batter I faced.

ahhh, good old little league (and "babe ruth" later once I moved).

I went several years to a baseball camp at a local university (JMU) and they would always move me up to play with the older kids (high school) and then I'd get my ass kicked b/c I really couldn't hit for shit (of all things, I could hit the curve really well, but couldn't hit a fast ball EVER - so they of course just always fed me curves - also I was so scrawny that swinging the bat was tough). it was hilarious to see the pitching coaches get all excited about how hard I could throw (broke my dad's thumb that year when he was catching for me), and then they'd see I really couldn't hit for shit and they'd then work with me to get me to hit.... and I just couldn't.

then I discovered I was way better at running than I was at hitting and never went back to baseball - just as well, I hated the guys on the team in high school.
last I checked, I can only throw in the high 60's now. I suppose I could get back into it - I used to throw for hours everyday after school - anyone that would catch for me would do - sometimes just throw at an imaginary strike zone - but I only owned 3 baseballs that I had stolen from the camp and it was a pain in the ass to always walk off the mound to the backstop.

and I once threw a guy out at the plate from the wall (jumped up and reached over the fence, caught the ball to prevent a home run, and then threw out the guy that tagged up at third - I thought myself quite the stud). I only played in one all star game b/c I was good on the field, and then had the worst batting average in the league.

but I've posted stats on what I used to be able to throw on here before and nobody belives me, so I suppose maybe this will get me shit too

The kid plays on the NY Bronx team. He throws a fastball topped out at 78mph from 45 ft away. It's actually 103mph calculated in at the major league distance. He has a fastball, change up, and slider. Awesome control and placement, he keeps eevry one off balance. I think he has allowed 2 hits in his last 3 starts which were all complete games. One of them was a no hitter. He's all of 12 years old.

Theres another kid in the LLWS, i forgot who he plays for, but hes 12 years old. Kid is 5'11 180, but its slop.

Tantric,

He may be a genetic freak....given what he can already do.

The kid lies about his age. He doesn't have a birth certificate to prove he is only 12. Many Dominicans ball players do this when they get to our counrty.

Julio Franco!! He as at least 35 when he played with the RANGERS. He claimed he was 28. Still got the job done with the bat, but the knees were knees of a 50 year old.

Amazing about what you said about arm trouble-and how pitching is all mechanics. When I was in HS I was 5'9" and about 140lbs dripping wet.....but when we went to the state champoinships my fastball was clocked at 88 MPH which they told me was the average major league fastball. My teamate (who we nicknamed "goose" after goose Gossage) Threw 89MPH and this gentic freak on another team who was like 6'5" threw like 93MPH.................funny side notes I was the forth pitcher on our depth chart since I had no control at all. I threw a wicked slider and an awesome split finger pitch too-but my arms used to get so sore I was about useless. We also beat that genetic freak too I whacked a home run off him.........but we lost in the semi-finals :(

12 years old my ass, the kid is a foot taller than anyone else on the team

Remember when Furcal claimed to be 18 years old, and a background check revealed that he was 23?

I'm not denying the kid's talent. The fact that there is a strong possibility that he is older than the other kids, is unfair to the little guys. It be shame if the little league world series were tainted like that.
