Lifting Strap "Options"

SgtSlaughter

New member
I've never had padding... I adorn my red and scraped wrists with pride after a heavy pulling day.

But is it time to experience some lifting luxury??

Lifting strap padding option... who's used both non-padded and padded?

Comments on both sides of the spectrum appreciated :)

I don't want to go ahead and order padding then hate it because it's in the way, ect... I'd like to get some opinions first :coffee:

Thanks bros and broettes!

If i'm using straps I want them to be pretty much as small as possible. Very thin and just long enough to get the job done. I like the ones that are shaped like a loop personally though.

for $10, i wonder how durable those are? how long they last?

i like the versa straps....about to order their power wraps

yeah - the price had me wondering, too - but I've had no problems. They're strong - my BF did 100lb dumbells with them - no problems. He has big wrists, tho - and they were almost too small for him.

I do not use straps but the best gloves I have ever purchased were $10 generic gloves at the local sporting shop. They have lasted me for years - sometimes a cheap price doesn't mean shit.

Thanks all for you're input i'll spread some Karma around to you bros and broette

i don't like the idea of the "hook" style because I like being able to drop the weights if need be ... with straps I wrap them in a way that let's me quick release if I want to.... 400lbs on hooks would take me down with it, lol.

So far... I got ZERO pros and cons or anything relating to the use of padded straps...

anyone???? :)

i would go padded....unless your hands are already so small you can't fully grip the bar

for that APT you had in the first post, i would definitely go with padded.....sometimes that sewn-in webbing is irritating

but yeah it would suck to get it and not like it.....too bad you can't try them first

Yeah I'm going to try the padding out...

I've used this brand (picked 'em up at a local sports store years back) for 6 years... I've got the traditional cotton "natural" color though...

Cheap, but they've lasted and still work great... just throwing in a pair with some chalk i'm going to get... Padded it is.

I thought 24" would be too long measured mine I've got...they're 24" lol... 24" it is.

edit! WTF! lol... glad I remeasured before i ordered... site for my brand said 20" ... yup...

I'll order 22" Straps...

weird it says their "one size fits all" 20" but you measured them at 24"

maybe they don't count the 4 inches that go around the wrist

enjoy the padded!

i edited my post... I re-measured one of my straps. 20" layed out on my desk :)

Thanks man!

yo sarge, i'm curious as to what size around your wrists are? those 20's long enough?

7" wrists exactly...measured using a rubber band that fit perfectly, not streched either, just fit perfectly around the bone after the wrist bump. I cut the band and layed it out on a ruler, lol... i can measure properly with soft measuring tape at home later.

20's have worked fine for years... that's why i'm getting 22" with the new one's just to see how it is with a little more room (without going full bore 24").

I believe the straps that I use have a thin layer of padding on them. I got them for 7 bucks at a local GNC. They are the best straps I have used yet.

I don't see any disadvantage to using straps that are comfortable. The padding is on the wrist so it's not like it effects the grip, and if you don't have to experience that rubbing on pinching then it's worth the extra 5-10 bucks to me. I could see some 'badasses' on this board pretending to be too tough for comfort but I really see no benefit in choosing straps without the padding.

lol - yeah - it'd be a problem. You have to be able to set them on the ground before you can unhook. They work for me, tho - I don't need to lift 400 lbs. :D

lol... :) thanks for gettin' back to me!

If it didn't come from Alan at APT, I won't be using it. His stuff is just far superior to anything else.

I've never used one with padding, but if it is a concern...why not? Email Alan, tell him that I (Clint Darden) sent you. Either he or Debbie will get back with you in a day or less. They will always give you the straight up truth about their products.

I'll get a picture of the ones that I use pretty soon. They are poly straps with a near as thick cotton overlapping center. Red poly, black cotton. Best I've used from their stuff as the poly feels good on my wrists and easy to get on the bar. You can actually see them here www.clintdarden.com to get a better view of them on me.

I have pretty good sized wrists (not for a strongman though) and I LOVE the really long straps. They really make a difference.
