Lifting Before a Track Meet?

I never trained the day before my track meets... hell... I think I only did light conditioning throughout my season... All the heavy lifting was done only DURING conditioning pre-season... while I was in the season, I didn't do any type of "muscle building" exercises... maybe endurance exercises... low weight shit...

I did more along the lines of sprints, jump ropes, plyometrics... Hey, Big Ten Track isn't spectacular... but it was at least Division 1. ;)

well I run 3/4 of the year, so I cant just do light conditioning throughout the season, I'm running the mile if that helps

You have meets 75% of the year???

When I was in competition... after every meet, I felt like I battled... sometimes I'd have to jump near 20+ times during one meet... and also have to participate in a 4x100m relay... I didn't NEED to be lifting heavy.

Now, if you have an indoor season and then your regular spring season, followed by a post season... that can take up some time... plus, there are independantly sponsored meets in the summer... I participated in all those meets... the only time of the year I wasn't competing is during August - December -- and then I was training HARD...

Don't know what to tell you other than that... I'd work on my event... and do plyometrics on days where I had a few days off in between meets... along with a steady stream of weight training... but nothing to wear me out too much before a meet -- so there is your answer.

no, I meant training 3/4 of the year, I try to take some time off in the summer, indoor isn't an officia; school sport at my school, its a club, so we don't have many meets, but during cross country I compete from sept-Nov and in outdoor its Mar-may and in indoor i throw in some meets here and there

If that were my schedule for athletics ... I don't think I would be training for anything other than endurance during my "competition" months. There isn't really a point to doing heavy strength workouts... not for distance work... I mean, if you had a week off in between meets, you could do a few workouts heavy for your Fast Twitchs... but your primary muscle mover during your running, long distances, are the slow twitches...

If I were you, I'd work on my sprint work for the track season... a mile runner can never underestimate the ability to turn on the heat in the last 200m of the race... you can do so much better by just hanging back near everyone and then passing them at the end... if you have a good sprint.
