Letter from a Marine.

Not sure if this has been posted or not. Got it from a buddy of mine on active duty.

A letter home from a Marine with the multinational force in Bosnia

Dear Dad,

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia): A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war in Iraq. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's
rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface, again, at some point in the near future anyway.

I also told him that is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of faggots for soldiers. I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support, if it ever came, was only for show anyway.

Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder
85% of the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the fact that this French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and whip his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in them than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.

With friends like these, who needs enemies?

Dad, tell mom I love her,

Your loving daughter

Lt. Col. Mary Beth Johnson USMC

what a bunch of ungreatfull pyles

My father, being a veteran (US Air Force), has always hated the french with a passion. This is what he would say of the French. "How many god damn times do we gotta bail those pussies out of trouble? Just look at WW2, they laid down like cheap whores and took that German dick without any resistance at all."

As for modern day... Lance Armstrong (SI - Sportsman of year, 2002 Tour De France winner 4 years running) says of the French. "Every time I see some fat French guy with his bottle of red wine screaming at me, it's the absolute best incentive." The french hate that an American, Armstrong has easily beaten their best riders four years running.

I'm sorry, but that letter pissed me right the fuck off!!!

It exemplifies the attitude of the American military, whom i have worked with quite extensively, to the letter. Why is it that the american army insists on being so fucking pompous sometimes?

The americans didn't bail France out of the second world war......THEY WERE ONLY A TINY PORTION OF THE ALLIED FIGHTING FORCE IN FRANCE! What about the thousands of Canadians and British troops who had been fighting that front for years before the americans showed up? I forgot, america saved the day........RRRRRIIIIGGGHHHHTTTTTT.

I agree that france is a pussy, but i don't agree that the states is as omnipresent as they like to portray themselves.

I dont think this particular piece overlooks the non-American involvement in WW2, it only typifies the general resent towards America from the French.

Don't worry, Canada is still America Jr. :D

The American Officer just spewed forth three paragraphs of belligerence before she pointed this out. If I were the the French soldier, I would have punched her in the chops right where she stood... after all, she consented to it.

Great post.........couldn't agree more.

OF COURSE IT IS FAKE!!!! I was trying to make a point by stating that the French and Canadians display an anti-American attitude

If their ass got in trouble who would they look to for help?

In that case I owe you an apology.........I am just tired of hearing how the USA is so great and France is so pathetic.

However, it isn't just France and Canada that has that attitude towards the USA in case you hadn't noticed.

There are many things I like about the USA but I dont appreciate the way that it tries to throw its weight around a lot. It seems that even the americans on this site are pre-occupied with military power. I can appreciate the strength of the US military machine but if it is so powerful why is it necessary to mention it in every other post?

For those stating the US sat idle and watched the Germans roll across Europe and entered Late....
Read this brief article and then search for "Lend Lease Agreement" on the web...

Destroyers sent to France

Destroyers sent to England

Plus hundreds of ship loads of supplies when England was broke.
It started that our Friends the Canadians used thier ships to transport the stuff with the US ships as escorts.
Eventually the Germans sunk a few of our ships and then it was on..

I understand where you are coming from. It just seems that the U.S. and the United Kingdom are the only ones who see the real problem.

My view is that we Americans don't really understand War's effects on citizens.

Europeans have been through Ages and Ages of war and death for its people and I would assume will do anything to avoid war.

The US and UK are making a tough decision to do not WHAT WE WANT TO DO, but what MUST BE DONE.

Yes, we have become the COPS that other countries call when talking nicely to the Neighbor fails and he won't listen to reason and keeps throwing loud parties..

Well I am in the UK and I understand that potentially dangerous countries must be told in no uncertain terms about what will happen if they step over the line. I am just not convinced that Iraq has gone to far. There are other countries that would make better targets if you are determined to deal with the problem. I think that Iraq was only chosen because it is easy to justify to Joe Public.

I am not quite sure about this. What are you referring to?

War of 1812 I think.

Just an example of one battle that Canadians won :

At the Battle of the Chateauguay, 400 Canadians vs. 3500 Americans.

Actually we were at war with Britain.. Canada was Spoils

On July 12, 1812, forces under General Hull crosses into Canada at Sandwich. The invasion is quickly stopped, and American forces are forced to withdraw. By August 16, Hull surrenders Detroit.

LOL On My birthday..

So if Jordans numbers are right, 1 British soldier is worth almost 10 american soldiers :)
