Leaving for the Army in July

HRDGainer

New member
i'm leaving for the army july 23rd... i have been lifting for like a year and a half... i am 5'9 160.... i would like to get up to around 175 180 by the time i leave.. cuz i am military police. One thing is that i plan on going into the FBI when i am 23. So i can't use any anobolic steroid.. what do you suggest ?

Well bro, I suggest getting as heavy as you can cuz you wont be able to eat right while in Basic & will lose a lot. If you only have muscle guess what? you'll probably lose muscle. I'd bump my carbs up & go in at a decent BF% 12 - 13% I can gaurentee you'll lose the fat. Eating & sleeping sux but, it's mostly all just a head game. I was in for 5 yrs. & BTW They don't test MP's for it, at least didn't when I was in & I've only been out for about 3 yrs. Now the FBI, well that may be a different story. Best of luck. Eat big & train hard.

Good luck mate hope you enjoy it, i did. Just curious why you wanna goto the MP, if its like UK forces, no one has any respect for them. Just like regular police. Not flaming you or anything, like i said good luck and enjoy it, coz lifes shit when you come out.

Good Luck

Good luck, as a former Army MP 5 yrs active I wish you luck.
However I can tell you from experience if you think you will be spending you time in driving around in a cruiser writing citations you are wrong.
I went to the 10th mountain Division (light Infantry) and deployed all over the world on a consistant basis. Lots of Field work, basically I was a grunt for 3 years until I went overseas and worked customs. Most MP's these days spend their time as field Mp's with road work reserved for those who have paid their dues in the field, or profile rangers.
Also, you will lose basically everything in basic, you will run/train your ass off and not see a gym for 18 wks. You could have time to train once you get to your duty station, if you are not deployed to some armpit of the word.

Oh, and one more thing I am sure your recruiter told you that you could use the GI bill and get an education from the government..
Ahhhh WRONG, sure you can do it, but it would take you 10-12 years to do it while active. I tried many times but had to drop class after class due to a deployment or field op, after a while I just gave up like most do.
If by chance you do get to work the road I hope you are ready for this, try 10-14 days on and 1 off, Mids, days, or swings it is a 12 hour workday with gaurdmount and PT/Training.

Sorry to be negative Bro, just take it from someone who has been there.

LivinLarger is right, MPs have become much different today then they ever have been. They're actually becoming fairly high speed compared to their counterparts 10 years ago.

Also, just FYI, if you want to be a fed its near impossible without a masters. You can get some jobs with a BS/BA but all the applicants will have more. Take advantage of each and every educational incentive that the Army throws at you. Try to study instead of party and you'll be good to go when you get out(with some more civilian school after). Good luck bro

dang boys, that sucks....
i forgot to add the fact that i am airborne. I don't know what to think about all that.. i was planning on getting a new car and stuff too... should i change my mos or what? now i am not wanting to go ! i thought it would be all pretty for me, getting my bachelors while i was in and getting out with a degree and five years experience and being able to go right to the fbi and try and get in.. WHAT DO I DO NOW ?

I shouldn't have said "near impossible" bro, its just more difficult. With 5 years experience, a Bachelors, and a kick ass attitude, you could do it. Why don't you get your degree first and go in as an orificer?

well, i would get my degree first but i proly can't get into a college cuz i took the act and got an 18. i didn't try... so you think it is possible for me to get my bachelors in 5 years(criminal justice) then i figured after that i would go into the national guard and they will pay for my masters and what i have left of the 50,000 will go straight to me to spend. i will be like 25 and have my masters.. how long would it take to obtain my masters... then i will apply to the fbi

Can't speak for the army pukes but I can vouch that in the corp only a few MOS's allow time to go to school. Damn near any grunt or mechanical MOS is a hard gig. Go along the line of support MOS.
As allways your unit and unit deployments demand is the main thing. If you get a good duty station that never gets picked to deploy then you'll have plenty of time for school.

im in the corps (bout to get out) but just lettin you konw that getting a bachelors while in is really hard. my boy did it but it was hard and he had to be enrolled in school almost constanly full time while living a marine corps life. dunno bout army but not easy as a marine. it can be done , but it wont be anything like ur recruiter says. good luck

i need something legal that will get me good gains for the next 4 monts.. preferably not having to use a pin.. i took sten once and didn't like it....
help me out here please

Orificer...that's a good one. I've been army reserve while I went to school and got my degree.

The only gains that you need to worry about are ENDURANCE and STRENGTH. That is what you will be tested for (APFT), therefore, it is what you will be trained for. Honestly, I think that if you try to take something for gains, you'll only lose it while you're at basic. My advice: train for army basic: push-ups/sit-ups/running(alot). You don't need anything for this other than a little discipline that will help you while you're there. I'm not telling you to skip the iron, just know what it will be like while in training.

Buy a car after basic/AIT: where the fuck are you going to keep it? Your barracks? Why insure/register/make payments when you will be very occupied with other things? After you get out of basic, you'll have some extra cash built up (because you won't be able to spend it). Most Active duty have nice rides: No house pmt, etc...
Good luck bro, if you have any other ?'s, just ask...

Airborne + MP = Ft Bragg

I was stationed there with SOCOM, after Ft Benning. You probably won't spend time on deployment, but you will spend a shitload of time in the field. Most of those guys were cool, but some were total shitheads...nothing like a PFC with a gun!!! If you want to go to college while you are in, stay away from airborne (any MOS). Try some fucking leg unit that never gets deployed or trains. Try an MOS like supply or commo that don't do shit either.

Buy your car now, after you graduate AIT and when you go to Airborne school, have your parents bring your car down so you can drive--believe me, you will want a car during jump school and afterwards!

email me if you got q's

Don't waste your time or money buying a car yet. You may end up over seas & not see your car for 3 years. My first duty station was Okinawa for 3 1/2 yrs. I had friends that were there with me & since Okinawa was not a hardship tour for Army they left there & went straight to Korea. If you're going to do anything, save money then put it down on a new car once you get settled. Despite what they make you think at the MEP station, you're gonna be poor in the military. You learn to live with the bare min. & a lot of guys make it worse by aquiring uneccessary debts. Trust me, That's the reason I left. I was tired of being broke. For example. I got out in '98 I was an E-5 with 1 child & 1 on the way. I was on WIC for my first kid, my 2nd one was born while I was on Terminal leave getting out. If I had stayed in, it would have been like this E-5+wife+2 kids = welfare, no shit bro, I would have qualified for welfare at Ft. Campbell. Just make sure you use the chow hall & the barrics & don't go in with debt & you'll be fine.

i am already an e3, i have gotten two promotions while in the dep program... Yea the meps station told me i would go one of three places... alaska, itlay, or fort bragg.... i don't have any kids and don't plan on it... so i will have nothing to spend my money on.. i am active duty in for 5 years... i got a 3 thou sign on and 50,000 for college. so you guys are telling me to wait till i get to my first duty station to buy my car and let my money build up while i am in basic and ait... then i go directly home for christmas and i leave for fort bennig on jan. 13th.. where will i go after benning. home for a week and then to my duty station.. they are supposed to call me with my assignment for my 1st station.. but haven't yet... you guys are telling me just to do the basic stuff.. pushups sit ups and pushups....

Bro, GOTO ITALY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked in the road in Italy for 6 mos, it was incredible. The women are unreal tall skinny with long black hair. Italians love americans, if you have blonde hair and a good body you will be a god to them!

Italy was by far my favorite place in europe, (except perhaps the Turkish Riviara, and you won't get duty there).
Good Luck

keep your money...stay away from the crappy used car lots where ever you are stationed...i was in the car business and now i'm in the army...paying off my college loans/serving my country....should've went ocs....enlisted isnt bad....give it up to the 11b's/ranger/sf's that are doing the right thing....you're gonna need credit to get a car so get yourself a visa and make small purchases and pay it off quick...stay away from the military credit card...keep a clear head at benning...work on pushups(wide, narrow, elevated, etc), situps and like all the other guys said run till ya puke then run some more...i did basic there at 1/38 inf batt....it was the best time i've had...i thought it was easy...it's all about breaking you mentally....mp school i hear is tough as well and it should be....i did 74b-computer geek 'cause that's my degree...go that route and get a job with fbi/cia/nsa doing computer crime/hacking...74b's got all sorts of time to get a degree...masters will take 3-5 depending on your course load and how much of a life you want to have...
