Learning can be so frustrating

Hey everyone.. htf are ya'll doin. Damn I've been so busy lately that I've barely had the time to come here and see what's up. Some of you all know I'm on a quest to reach 160 lbs. (Nope, not taking dbol)

I tell you guys, learning how to eat right, work out, take supplements (the right shit).. all this stuff can be so f'n frustrating. I learn one thing, do it, get told I've been doing it wrong.. start something else, only to find out it should be done yet another way.. gad!!! I could f'n scream sometimes. :(
It's been a while since I've posted.. life has gotten really busy.
I started Ninjutsu about a month ago, attend this 7 classes a week. It's on my days off that I go to the gym now. (4 days a week). I've cut cardio from my routine.. I do enuff cardio in Ninjutsu I gather.. and since I'm /trying/ to bulk, doesn't seem like a good idea to do a 20 min run at the gym.

Well lets see..

I started this journey about 4 months ago at 129 lbs. Was at 14.5 % bf.. a couple weeks ago I got measured up and now I'm at 135, 9.5% bf. I guess I gained half inch on my arms..inch on my chest.. My body is nice and hard, I guess I got good definition, but for f.sakes, I wish I could get some f'n bulk.
But I been doing shit wrong. Before a workout I been drinkin a high calorie/creatine mix. But have I really been drinking water? Nope. Only /during/ my workout. Been told that when taking creatine you need to drink lotsa water. (Well, actually you need to drink lotsa water /anyway/) So last week I actually started to drink water. Now I always got a bottle of it at my desk and I'm constantly refilling it. (If the bottle aint there, you aint drinkin it! Out of sight, out of mind)

I'm on a new workout routine.. pyramid style.. but they didn't explain to me how this shit works so I was doing it wrong. The excercises they have me doin are now 3 sets. Do 6 reps & decrease the weight. 8 reps, decrease then 10 reps - decrese. Well here I thought this was 3 sets in itself. Someone I know said that this is wrong and backwards. So now I start at 8 reps, increase the weight, come down to 6 reps, increase the weigbt and drop to 4 reps to increase it again. This being one set with no breaks. Damn it's sore but nice.

Lets see what else.. In the mornin I eat a bowl of that oatmeal. It's instant and from what i've been reading I don't know if I should be eating it anymore. I like my Tuna so I'll bring a can of that to work with fruit and veggies. Lunch is usually rice and chicken, some fruit.. I like those protein bars.. cheap and easy to snack on in between what ever else I'm trying to eat.

I just read that post by Mr.X who so generously made that Bulking guide.. going to follow it and see what happens. Someone told me I should be drinking a protein shake when i wake up in the morning.. so the last couple of days I started to do that. I just read that people do this before they go to bed too.. so I think I might start doing that myself.

Well that's about it for now.. still reaching for 160.

I totally understand what you mean about learning and being frustrated. The thing is, nutrition is still all "theory." So pretty much anything anyone tells you is just a "theory." The only way you will TRULY learn the RIGHT thing is by researching and experimenting. Everyone's body is different. If someone tells you that it works for them to have a protein shake right as soon as they wake up and you have no reason to believe it's a BAD idea... TRY IT! Same with working out. You have to learn to read your body and learn how it responds.

My point is, don't get frustrated. There's no reason to. You're working out and therefore, you are on the right path. What's the rush? So you find out something you're eating may not be the best choice... so what? Change it and learn for next time! It's a neverending road to where you want to be. Nobody ever reaches the end of it... so you can keep getting frustrated or enjoy the learning process. It's all very interesting and if you're really into it, it's a lot of fun!
 
Uhm, it's not all theory...

It's not a theory that processed food is garbage.
Or that protein pre and post workout is a great way to see some quick body composition changes.
Or that carbs after glycogen stores are filled are useless.

Buu, it's tough in the beginning. I'm 17 and really never stay consistent with anything, but I do absorb all the knowledge I can, and this is becoming second nature to me now. Don't switch around a lot.

1. Focus on heavy, compound lifts. Try to hit each bodypart 2x a week. I'd honestly try the BFS program which is in a sticky on the training forum.

2. Eat non-processed, whole foods. You could use a whey shake in the morning. You were probably suggested that because it's fast-digesting and gets into your system right away after an all night fast. Seriously though, focus more on total calories in a day. Don't mix carbs and fats. Drink 1.5-2 gallons of water a day. Are you an ecto/meso/endo? I'd assume an ecto or, at best, meso. That being the case, you'll need a shit load of calories. Try multiplying your bodyweight by 22 to determine how much you need daily. Eat a bit more on training days, for obvious reasons.

3. Rest. Get those 8 hour comas every night. You need that time to grow.

It's that simply. Train hard. Eat big. Rest easy.
 
You're right. Learning what to eat is very easy. What makes it difficult is when you attempt to make your diet taste great - quality food simply does not taste nearly as good as processed food. Once you get over that fact, you'll see how easy dieting really is.

Of course it's all theory. There is no proven law for all people about any of that stuff you listed. I'm not saying it's not true, but it's theory nonetheless.
 
yes it is frustrating but incredibly rewarding once you hit GOLD! and bingo, you have found something that works for you.

stick with it broly, it's the journey. :)
 
Thanks a lot you guys for your suggestions and motivation. I shouldn't let it get to me, most of the time it doesnt. You gotta be happy with who you are and what you got. I mean, anyone of us who bust or balls with this way of life should feel good about what we do. Not everyone has the patience, energy, or care to get off their lazy asses and do what it takes to be healthy.
