Lbs per week goal?

Sweet_Bitch

"Everyone" says a solid goal for weight loss is 2 lbs per week. My husband says 5 is reasonable. He's crazy, right? Help please....

Are you just starting out, or have u been working it out for a while now? In the beginning weeks, 5lbs may seem reasonable, because you lose a lot of water weight, not to mention your body is shocked. But after a short while, your body gets used to it, and 1-2lbs a week is normal. Very normal. You don't want to lose to fat, think loose skin, also you'll definitly be losing muscle. Tell your husband to imagine you 260 lbs lighter - which is the amount you could lose in a year if you went by his 5lb per week expectations.

It can depend on where you start from. If you are severely overweight or have a lot to lose, 5 lbs in a week is reasonable - for a little while. You cannot maintain that. Once you get towards a "normal" weight/BF%, it becomes harder. Losing 1-2 lbs of fat per week is pretty normal and healthy.

The lower your BF, the harder it is to lose fat. Your body innately tries to hold onto it. Thus, why the last weeks of contest prep are so freaking hard. Diet must be 110% clean.

Can also depend on water retention. Some people can lose 10lbs of water in a couple days.

I lost 25 lbs a few months ago. I kind of quite trying then, got lazy I guess. I haven't been going to the gym, but have been doing cardio at home, although not regularly. I've started a log and am vowing to stick with it-my health, happiness, and marriage depend on it.

What is everyone's thoughts on lifting as far as when I should introduce that? Some people have said I should lose some weight first and then lift, some say don't lift at all (this seems dumb), and some say lift from the beginning.

Girl lift from the beginning. Practice your form with light weights, or even using your own body weight as resistance. There can be weeks that the scale doesn't budge for me, but my clothes size goes down, and everyone tells me I'm shrinking. I'm so happy I've started to lift.

That's what I was doing before-in fact, I put more into lifting then cardio and could really see a difference. Thanks Guys!!
