LBM, gain muscle with no fat... how?

Legion Kreinak2

New member
Yeah well, I'm curious because I always here it's possible, just gains come alot slower... but I'm more of a recreational lifter, I realized. I'm not in it for competition or to prove strength over anyone. I just wanna look good. And I mean all year round. So, can anyone point me in the direction of articles, websites, threads, or their own past experiences on attaining LBM without fat gain (or VERY minimal)? I'm looking for something that's not insane, like 200+ grams of protein a day. I don't want to have to cram food down my throat, make homemade weight gainers, etc. etc. I just want it to be something I do on the side, not something that dictates my life. I'd GREATLY appreciate it if anyone could assist me here.

Thank you all so much!

well bro if you dont want to eat and dont want to do insane things like consume protein...Then well you're just shit out of luck... Sorry but that just how it is... You don't get something for nothing.. You want to change your body then you have to be willing to do what it takes through training, diet, and rest. But then again members of this board have been telling you what u need to do for months now... Either listen to them or just stay the same...

what jdarty said

you have a new question every other day, which the people on this board have been more than willing to help you out with. aside from the fact that you want to be spoonfed advice when you could be doing some simple research on your own to answer your own questions, when you come back and post new questions about how you should be training, you make it very apparent that you're not listening to the things that we have taken the time out to explain to you. you ask about the 5x5 routine and 10-11 people type out at least a paragraph to help you out, then you come back the next week and start asking about how you can train with just bodyweight. please stop wasting people's time.

either do this or don't do it. and if you do want to do it, use the search button and try to figure some of these questions out for yourself.

good luck

Legion really... All of us who have been trying to help you have been at this for years...We know what does and doesn't work through info past down to us and our own trial and error.. It would be in your best interest to follow some of the advice you've been given.. Trust me, you will be most happy that you did..

We've all been in your shoes, just starting out.. And it's important to realize you need to listen to the advice of others instead of being stubborn with your head up your ass.. We're all here to help bro, but please.. Just open your ears and listen for a change.. It will be well worth your time and effort if you do.

Peace

I gotta try that CCJ, thanks.

As for the rest of you, I think you've just become too absorbed in this world of bodybuilding and such. Sounds to me like you guys think you can't make gains unless you eat that much protein. You're telling me everyone out there who looks really good, has nice bodies, doesn't let weight training dictate their life, still eats 200+ grams of protein, and 20x BW in calories? Hardly. Not a fuckin' chance. Sure, it may allow for quicker, more optimal gains, but in no way is it the only method of going about gaining muscle.

if it was as easy as just lifting and not eating properly, a lot of us would do that.

you cant build mass while being in a caloric deficit. at all. you CAN get leaner, and maybe thats what you want to do. i'm not sure. but if thats what you wanna do, go for it

^your full of it...you have to know your body and it's needs. If you wanna become leaner then you eat protein without carbs and do cardio. If you wanna bulk then you eat more protein w/carbs and do less cardio. simple as that

i rest my case.

just keep on believing whatever is most convenient to you at the time.

my guess is that you must be fairly intelligent based on your writing style/sentence structure. however, you continually prove to be an idiot based on the content of your posts. and i don't think many people would disagree with this assessment.

so,

SHUT UP

I know your not looking for the Ronnie Coleman or professional body builder look, but more of the mens health look.
Do you really think those guys just go through their routine, come home, eat pop tarts and magically have these unbelievably chizzelled abs? Hell no! I mean, these guys probably have amazing genetics and such, but just because you train, does not make you have a nice body.
I know about 100 people who go work out, day in, day out, year after year, who see absolutely no results. Sure they may get a bit leaner... but their diet is usually so inconsistant and aweful, they always stay at square 1.
If this is wierd diet is REALLY what you want to do... Heres what I sugest...
-Go grab a digital camera, or a regular one for that matter.
-Take a handful of pictures and send them to me.
-I will host them for you on my web server
-Train with your diet the way it is
-Take new pictures in 6 months
-Send them to me
-Let everybody here critisize them

You will most likely put on a little bit of mass, because right now you are a boy, going through puberty and changin into a man... These gains are more the result of the fact your body is changing... not from hammering the weights...

You gotta try to be more respectful to the people on these boards man... everybody here has tried, time after time to help you. Sooner or later people are going to just stop responding..

So get your ass in gear and snap some pictures....
The proof is in the pudding

If we can't give constructive criticism as well as take it...then I would rather this entire forum be closed.

We ALL come here to better ourselves and learn from each other...ALL of us. If you don't...then don't come here. That goes for everyone, including myself.

Lets remember why we are here and think to ourselves how OUR posts will affect others before we post it here. THINK!!!! Help others, don't put them down...EVER. If someone says something to you that you do not like, PM them and ask them to delete their post. Try to settle it through PM rather than on the board. Feelings easily get hurt, I know that mine do on here.

It is nice to be important but more important to be nice.

Legion, If you feel your're right then do as Dr Bones said.. And lets look at your resutls in 6 months, then a year.. I promise you, there won't be much difference. You will never succeed until you learn that you "don't" know everyting, and that you're NOT always right.. If you're never going to listen to advice given when you post questions, then why do you bother even asking them? Seems as though you've already made up your mind...

Plain and simple, it is a given that you will NEVER gain muscle mass if you are in a caloric deficit.. Muscle CANNOT be built if there is not sufficient Protein to build and repair muscle tissue.. These simple LAWS may have well been written on stone tablets by God himself.. There is no way around them... Sorry bro

I don't think you need over 200grams of protein though. Especially for him at his lean body mass weight

I myself only take in 160 grams tops, maybe not even that, and I only weigh 198lbs now - lean body mass less than that.

As long as you get lots of fat in your diet all is well. Good fat that is , but some staturated fat doesn't hurt, I take my fair share of junk food :)

LOL...Cool, speaking of Junk food... I just pollished of about a pound of the creamiest most delictable Cheesecake that has ever existed....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm With a combo of cherry and blackberry topping.... Fresh from the CheesCake Factory in Altlata.. God bless that place

You know what you could do LK?
If you really dont want to put on fat and don't mind gaining wait at a slower rate..
Try eating like 200-300 calories over your BMR... Maybe just drink 1 or 2 more big glasses of milk everyday...
I'm not sure if you will see huge gains if any.. but its gotta be better than having a caloric defecit....
You don't have problems at least eating your BMR right?

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

DUDE....eat and GROW

then cut down...people have told you this a million times!

The kid doesn't want to be a bodybuilder or a powerlifter or for that matter use steroids. If you guys can't give constructive advice for those who have goals that don't necessarily desire 20 inch arms and a 400 pound squat then don't respond.

Legion, the gains will come slower, but they will come, and as you say you will look good year round.

Eat enough so that you are never 'feeling' hungry. Concentrate on heavy basic compound exercises without exception. Rows, deadlifts. Forget about cables, forget about concentration curls and the like. Work in a rep range of 4-8 and keep total sets for each bodypart between 7-12 depending on the size of each muscle group.

Do not work synergistic muscle groups in the same workout if you can help it. ie keep back and biceps apart, chest and shoulders apart etc.

What type of metabolism have you got. If it's ultra fast like mine, forget about cardio, other than a moderate walk every now and then for health maintenance.

Don't chop and change exercises too frequently...........but keep your core mass builders as the basis of each workout.

At the end of the day, there are no secrets, it's about consistency of effort and what you do in the gym will make you or break you. Keep everything real simple and basic

I have to chime in here. I'm not calling anyone an idiot but if you can't consume at least 200 grams of protein a day, you ain't gonna gain shit brother.... Hell if you are floating around 240, you'll need this much just to maintain mass while dieting. Also providing you're not a beginner, you're NOT going to gain muscle mass while losing body fat [even on steroids (with the possible exception of hgh)]. These are two completely opposite physiologic functions. Think about it, it takes excess calories to gain muscle; fat loss comes from a caloric deficit. Yeah i know muscle mass will burn off calories by itself, but you cannot gain mass if your body is constantly seesawing between caloric excess and deficits. Yes you will probably grow stronger, but your not going to build one ounce of muscle tissue. You really have two choices, stay lean and small, or bulk up and then trim the fat off in time for the beach. Winter is already starting bro - the choice is yours....

Legion I find a few constant problems with what you want.
1) you want to be a fighter yet you don't take classes
2) you want to gain SOME musle but don't want to lift too hard
3) you want to gain mass but don't want to eat
4) you ask for advice and then slander the person who tries to help you.
5) you want quick results but don't want to put the effort in that it really takes...

In all seriousness, if it was easy to reach our goals (all people are different) then evryone would be a fighting champ, a competitivie bodybuilder, or national strongman.... But it isn't that easy, it takes sacrifice, dedication, and most of all a strong will to do what others won't.....

If you want to gain mass slowly then fine, try this, but don't complain abou the advice I give; find out what your base metabolic rate is, and add 100-200 calories on top of that with either milk, eggs, PB, chicken or even whey protein. this will help you gain weight slower but it will stille be a gain. After you have gained 10lbs you need to bump up the total calories 100-200 since you gained muscle which will actually increase your metabolism.... Keep doing theis untill you are happy with your results....

if you are going to put in alot of time in the gym lifting 3+ days, you owe it to yourself to altleast throwdown some protein shakes during the day...

PAY THE COST TO BE THE BOSS!!!
