Kung Fu / Tai Chi

Anyone tried Tai Chi or Kung Fu?

I need some new hobbies & activities since I don't teach aerobics so much anymore. I still need more diversity in my atheletic endeavors as well. I was checking out a web site for a local school... looks like the Tai Chi is nice for relaxation & both Kung Fu & Tai Chi can help you move more gracefully (I could use that, I walk into stuff a lot :lmao: )

Once upon a time I was a Okinawan kempo brown belt...damn that was a million years ago LOL. My experience with the martial arts is that they are wonderful for grace, flexibility, discipline but they rapidly become as all consuming as bodybuilding. It is not something that you will get good at doing a couple of classes a week, more like a couple of hours a day...

I trained for 15 years...competed nationally for about 4 of them. I trained in several different styles and can assure you that it is the instructor that is teaching you and not the "art" that you choose to study that is important.

I had a very good friend in Annapolis who trained in several soft styles and I always loved learning from him. He was 5'4", 135 lbs...and being a lot bigger than he was it was more difficult...but fun.

Find something that you find to be fun and go for it.

Ditto that Bfold - I am almost certain that one of my instructors certificate came out of a bubble gum machine. LOL

I've chatted with danielson about this on the chat board when I was looking into kung fu. You might try him over there, where he's a mod.
