I found this article (A high-fat, ketogenic diet induces a unique metabolic state in mice) about ketogenesis. It suggests that being on a ketogenic diet (that is a diet with very low carb intake and high fat and protein intake) not only helps lose fat but also helps to prevent fat accumulation.
This is consistent with what I've studied in that the regulatory pathways for ketogensis (the production of ketone bodies and the use of ketones as energy in the brain, kidneys and muscles) and lipogenesis (the production of fats and storage of them within adipose tissue).
So in Lamens Terms: Doing a ketogenic diet causes you to lose fat, because you are losing fat, being in the ketogenic diet prevents you from gaining fat. Questions?
