"Pittsburgh seems too obvious. The Steelers have been playing on tilted fields lately -- average starting edges of +17 yards vs. Indianapolis (own 38 vs. own 21), and +17 yards vs. Denver (own 43 vs. own 26). This is aberrational for one team in consecutive games against good teams -- or, I should say, it would be aberrational for one team to engineer such an edge for a third straight game against a quality opponent. If Pittsburgh doesn't get such an advantageous head start -- if the teams eventually are near even in average starting field position -- do the Steelers still win by at least 5 points? For instance, in Week 13, Cincinnati at Pittsburgh: Bengals, +12-yard edge in average starting field position (43 to 31), Bengals win by 7. Week 11, Pittsburgh at Baltimore, Ravens, +7-yard edge (36 to 29), Ravens win by 3.
That said, Seattle's NFC Title Game vs. Carolina was +19-yard edge in average start (43 to 24). Doubtful that the Seahawks will enjoy such a favorably tilted field against Pittsburgh, which is why they need to "make their way" down the field in earnest, and turn Pittsburgh's meal-ticket (Bettis) into something that the Steelers can choke on instead because they can't feed Bettis while trailing."
