I just started powerlifting, Have been lifting for 16 years tho. Iam 43 years old and weigh about 190. What kind of lifts would I need to be competive at a local event? Any Ideas?

Congrats on coming over to the light side of the force. LOL. Lifts will depend on your meet. If there are some good lifters in your area you might have to put up some big weights. My first bench comp was a small meet at a family gym and there were three nationally ranked pressers there. Was pretty shocking to see them but was also great to see some big weights pushed up.

You've come to the right place, although I don't train as a power lifter, I believe a man should be as strong as he looks. I train heavy and have got alot of good tricks and tips from this board. BTW, 16 yearsof training? I'm sure you can show us a few things also.

What i did was searched the internet for leagues and councils (and things like that) in my area and checked out the records of lifts.

who cares if you enter and come last? its all experience and personal achievement

Not the best website, but you'll get info on ordering.
It posts all upcoming meets and results from the ones that have taken place. Also includes articles and a Q & A section amongst other things. Good place to judge yourself.

I just started myself, I just turned 16 recently I started lifting for martial arts, then just to keep in shape, then as a bodybuilder( I was very into that ), I am now discontented with bodybuilding (for several reasons), I recently switched to powerlifting. I am just under 200 lbs and very lean, I bench 245, squat 320, dead 430. I fell I'm more or less on top of my training, but the only ppl I can talk to about it are bbers so now I've found my way here, I hope and can learn much and contribute some as well.
