ANyone here have higher end video cards?

I just bought this video card manufactured by the company XFX. At first it Idled at 70celsius and at full load it went up to 99celsius. Tha'ts with the stock fan speed and the side panel on the computer.

At 50% fan speed and the side panel off, it idles at 68celsius and at full load it can get up to 90celsius. This is freaken hot! I contacted XFX technical support and they agree it runs hot.

Anyone have any experience with this card? I asked people in Toms hardware and other sites and they agree that the card should run hot, but not 99celsius HOT.

I've since requested an RMA from newegg.com(company I bought from). I'm hoping the replacement card they send me doesn't run this hot. My previous card was significantly lower quality, but it never passed 61celsius even when I overclocked it by over 20-25% clock speeds.

Re: Just bought a HD 4870 1 gig GDDR5 video card. This shit runs too hot have to retu

I dont have any experience with higher end video cards but was wondering ---- a bunch of my coworkers talk about how Apple Macs are the best for graphics. I've debated them about this because when I was at a radiologists office none of them had any Macs. Just high end windows workstations with $5000 monitors. Apparently the graphics needed to read MRIs/etc are handled by a windows machine and not an apple.

What do you think? Say the video card you have compared to an apple?

I think FUCK APPLE. Bunch of hippy faggots.

The thing about apple is that all their shit is more expensive for no god damn apparent reason except that it's an Apple brand. Hippie child molesting faggots will pay more for an Apple product for the same reason they'll pay more for an organic piece of chicken: so they can brag about it to their hippie child molesting faggot friends. Bunch of scumbags...

I can't debate those types of people. You must handle your coworkers the same way you would handle a homeless person begging you for money: punch them in the throat.

Which Nvidia card did you get instead? I think the only Nvidia card that matches the 4870 price/performance wise is the GTX 260.

What was your GPU temperature during idle/load? Which brand of the 4870 did you have?

Any of the higher end cards I bought back in the day (and the day was about 1 year ago), I always got a 3rd party heatsink and cooling fan for it. Zalman I think is what I used most often.

Newegg.com - VGA Cooling

Find one compatible with your card and always get some good thermal grease too. The two things you want to cool really well are the CPU and the VGA card. Never use the stock shit that comes with it. My coolermaster case has 1 120mm fan on the top, two in the front, one in the back and 4 on the side pannel. Make sure you get quiet case fans too; went with teh Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120mm

You got a good card I wouldn't RMA it, just need to make sure you have a good case and cooling to support it.

My card, for the record was a GeForce 8800 GTX a year ago

My case: Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Stacker 830 RC-830-SSN3-GP Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
Its big as shit but cools so well

Get the Vapor X version instead-
sapphire vapor x - Google Search

Or wait for the 5770 line which will run even cooler and perform about equal to the 4870.

Or yeah if you're adept enough you could also do what Captain FT says.
