Jumpstarting weightloss & stuff like Metabolife

OK, yes, I know Metabolife and things like that are supposed to be total crap but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the "choices" that can be used to assist in weightloss.

I used to lift weights, run, windsurf, rockclimb, travel, hike and rollerblade. Then I met and married a guy who was a total slackass, had a baby with Mr. Demotivation, had really bad health caused by post partum depression and a failing marriage... good thing I kicked him to the curb, huh? ;) Sorry if this is TMI, just explaining how I "got" to being out of shape.

I've decided that I am going to lose 50 pounds and have a goal to do this within 6 months. I think I'm being pretty realistic about what it takes to get back into shape but I also want to be very smart about the choices I make - from food, workouts to supplements. I'm doing great on eating right and have read some of the posts by Daisy and others (thanks women!).

Anyone here lost this much weight in recent years? Care to point me to some information that could help me?

I greatly appreciate your time!

right now i am using clenbuterol which has shown me great results. there is no real danger if it is taken properly. u must still diet well and excercise regularly.

elle- if you have control over your diet right now- IMO I would stay with that...run it without anything until results are no longer reached...then add a supplement...run that... and so on...you have the biggest battle in control...use it...congrats on the new life- thats not easily done..

Second that, good advice

The hardest thing I'm "quitting" is my sugar addiction - sodas are my downfall. I don't eat chips, candy bars and I cut out eating carbs a couple years ago during a bout with gestational diabetes. Man am I craving sugar - I feel so mean! I'm trying to put that extra crankiness to good use with my cardio...

I really appreciate your advice and words of encouragement - thank you! :)

sugars are carbs...

you don't eat any carbs besides sugar? what is your diet like?

you should visit the diet board as well. Good luck.

sodas are evil....you can dilute your sodas with water to help ween-off...this will keep you from; road rage, gym rage, workplace rage and general discomfort while detoxing... :supercool

Goodluck Elle, sounds like you're on the right track. I love sugar too... I rarely drink soda anymore and I even drink unsweetened iced tea w/ lemon now (and like it)! My weaknesses are Twix and homemade pies, etc. That's where I have to fight with myself. I also haven't been able to cut the sugar out of my coffee yet, but I've been trying to get down to only having coffee 2 mornings per week (when I really need it).

What do your workouts look like?

Hi Elle (pretty name - my daughter's name is Ella :qt: )
I hear you on the sugar addiction. When you say that you don't eat any carbs, what exactly do you mean? Do you eat ANY? If I cut out all carbs, I'd be tired and a huge grump-ass. Do you eat any unrefined carbs? As long as I'm eating clean, with adequate protein, fat AND carbs, my sugar cravings are pretty minimal. Maybe you just need to adjust your diet??

Oops - I shoulda clarifed - you guys ACTUALLY READ what I write! I'm used to working with people who can barely read let alone comprehend... hehe ;)

As for carbs - I cut out "bad carbs" like white bread, white rice, chips, etc. I still eat the occasional slice of flax bread and sometimes brown rice but the majority of my diet consists of vegetables, lean meats (turkey), fish, etc.

Soda is my only bad habit left to kick and it's the hardest one of all! I've worked in the tech industry for years where sodas flow freely (and are free!)... it's like crack in a can... LOL.

You know, this is gonna sound goofy but it works for me - when I'm REALLY craving sugar/sweets I burn a vanilla candle. The smell is most of what I am craving and if I just breathe in hard enough... LOL... yeah, I could probably gain weight breathing in a candle's vapors at this point! ;)
