Franco is at least 46 years old (his official age) and will turn 47 on Aug. 23. He is already the oldest man to appear in the baseball postseason, the oldest to play in 100 or more games in a season and last year he became the second-oldest position player in history.
Only Minnie Minoso, who took two gimmicky at-bats for the White Sox in 1980 at age 57, was older.
Some of the players still active in the majors when Franco arrived: Willie Stargell, Johnny Bench, Carl Yastrzemski, Fergie Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Bill Lee and Luis Tiant.
