right now im considering getting into a new profession, possibly personal training...my curent job sucks i work in a -20 deep freezer & unload semis all night. BTW. what is the demand for personal trainers?? average pay? how hard is it to get certified?

thank you

it is easy to get a job as a personal trainer. my buddy was at bally's for a year and got 3 certifications. he was up to $20 an hour. if you become well known and open your own studio you can make more than $50/hr.

Area plays a big part on demand and price of per session. I know out in LA it avg. between 50-250.oo per session. Anyone can get a job but knowing what your talking about and being good is to diffrent stories. And that link is who I am currently getting certified under. Great people and very reputable. Good Luck

Personal training can be a great job and it can also be a very shity job. Belive me I know. As far as certifications go, the are pretty easy to obtain once you have bought their book and studied it. The most creadible and also the hardest (the one that makes you remember the most BS that you will never use) is required by certain clubs is the ACSM certification. Actually in some clubs and certain parts of the country they may waive the certification for gym experience and a degree related to health.

You should also know that you will need insurance to train people and while 20 dollars and hour sounds great, if you are paying 200 dollars a month in insurance it is not so good. Some clubs will cover the insurance and give you leads for clients for a cut of the pay. In my opinion this is the best option when first getting started and establishing a client base. You should know that it is harder than you think to get enough ROUTINE clients to make great money. At first look forward to two jobs because you will most likely only be working a few hour per week training. There must also be alot of time spent at the gym in order for the people to get comfortable with you.

Its a good job and if taken seriously and put enough time into it can be lucrative. My biggest advise is to understand that the people who you will be training are usually not into the weights as much as you, don't have the same dedication, nor the same intensity to achive their goals. Learning to push different types of people to their limit and not crush them is the art. Good luck.
