I don't know if you've ever seen this before, but I think you should.

This scares me to death. I can't even imagine what the guy feels like that was the cause of the accident. I think she was very pretty too.

that makes me livid

people need to start acting responsible,I cant stand assholes who live when innocent people's lives are shattered

Of all my peers, I am the ONLY person I know of who has never driven drunk.

I know too many people who have had their licenses suspended for a DUI.

I appreciate you doing so.

I have lost more than one friend to drunk drivers and it was not cool how you were poking fun at her.

Looks like she got T-boned. Chances of coming out alive are 10% or something when the other car is going more than 40mph. I'm talking about a average sized car getting hit by another average sized car. :( Stuff like this really bothers me. I have a lot of cop friends and they tell me stuff that shows and movies don't even come close to. One time I saw one those trucks that car wrecked cars and one of the cars suffered a side impact by the passanger side and man I thought to myself, I don't think anybody came out alive and I felt shitty for a week. About 40,000 people die in America due to car accidents. In 12.5 years that's about 500,000 people. So wear your seat belts, slow down and drive safe. Stop yourself from drinking and driving and somebody else from doing it too.

Perhaps you now understand why I took PB's choice of avatar somewhat personal... ?

That's so sad.. It brought tears to my eyes.. Thats what happens when people are stupid, god it makes me livid, my prayers are with her.

Last july, My boyfriends best friend drove drunk, and hit another car doing 100.. He killed 6 people that night, but he's just fine.. I still cry about those people and thier families.. Over the christmas holidays i saw him while i was doing my shopping.. and when i asked about the accident, he said, "shit happens" if my boyfriend didnt hold me back i would have torn his face off.. God i hate people

very sad deal. I think it's crazy how most can see something like this, and really feel it. then next week being driving drunk.

Sweet Mary mother of God....

http://www.expressen.nu/html/bildarkiv/Saburido.htm

I just looked at this in your sig Frackal.... that is unbelieveable...

All to often I take my life and what i have for granted... the ability to blink... eat food... hold objects in my hand... and think, I have the audacity to complain about getting over a knee injury... or not being able to back-squat because of my shoulder....

My prayers go out to this girl... this is truly one of the most horrible stories I have ever seen in my life....

C-ditty

I think it is one of the most horrible things I have seen in a long time...

I have just stepped up a notch in not letting friends drive drunk... and quite possibly, will not touch alcohol for another 6 months.

making any type of joke or "fun fun" about this situation is lower than a filthy piece of shit... no... lower than the filthiest bacteria that feeds off the shit.. that bacteria's shit... that is how low it is....

C-ditty

They showed us a tape of her story, and her talking a few weeks before graduation at my school... definately keeps me from driving when I drink.... horrible, horrible story.. :bawling:

Where is this tape available?? Is there a way to help them? Money? I have already decided to put her in my nightly prayers... but I feel as if I have to do something more.... you know??

I am not sure the location of the tape, or the location of the fund's to her rehabilitation.. It has been almost a year since I saw it.. but the image of her beautiful face turned into what it is will be burned into my head forever :(

DW -- that is what strikes me to the bone... it is one of my greatest fears... I have to believe she can be brought back somehow... With our medical science, you would think there is more we can do for her than put droppers in her eye and treat her with what looks like cotton swabs!! :(

I have found something to occupy my free time with... something to stand for in this....

Definately is more they can do for her, but they are running all this off of personal funds.. and they were barely making enough to keep her in the hospital at first (if I remember correctly), I really wish I had that fund information... I myself don't have money to donate, although I would if I could spare... but It would make me feel better just putting the info up.. damnit.. so long ago.. Maybe it will be on a Texas drug enforcement/deterant website..?

the more you give the more you and everyone else will have, and it will sustain you and your endevours.

hate while powerful reaches few except thos you hurt, and yourself, and hate burns out very quickly

In June 2001 Reggie Stephey was convicted of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqui's two friends. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $20,000.

This is what happened to the guy who rammed into her with a .13 alcohol level... higher than the .08 limit in Texas...

i wonder if any one who drives drunk is contributing? would you call that hypocrisy or just a lame attempt at making themselves feel better?

I know some people were offended by this, thinking maybe thinking of this poor girl in the same thought as sex is disgusting.

Well she is a human being with needs. The same hormones course through her blood as any other females. She gets horny too.

So don't automatically dismiss this. You don't know that she wouldn't hit PoyeBoy.

jc

You fuckin ruined my day. That's disgusting and sad. Personally I'd rather be dead but hey, some people might have more courage and more appreciation for life than me. How many times will we have to tell people about the dangers of driving drunk ? Will the death penalty be the solution one day ?....... just wondering.

thats very sad. words cant fully describe what that poor woman has had to endure. my heart goes out to her.

manny78 said:
BTW I'm wondering how much will she get from a Civil trial. Must be millions no ?

Does the driver or his family have money? If not, then her family is squeezing blood from a turnip and will never recoup much. If the driver's family does have money then it's likely that they spend more than her on a legal defense so she may lose the case or get a low monetary award; even if the guy and his family have money, the girl and her family will probably have to take pro bono work or settlement stipulation work as they will likely have to spend every nickel they have to pay for medical care. So either way it does not look promising.

This is a tragic situation that makes me hug my family a little more every day.

Wrong. "Disgusting" is not the word for the situation that you are trying to justify. No one said anything about how she looks and wanting or not wanting to have sex with her. This girl is going through things that most of us cannot imagine and to have it lessened by yours and others insensitive remarks inappropriately aimed at being somehow callously funny IS disgusting.

you're right. i should've said that if poyeboy meant it just for shock value (which he probably did), it was wrong.

however to dismiss all possibility of sexual activity for the stricken young lady is unfair to her.

joking about it and thus stigmatizing it further is wrong. however to buy into the whole aspect of dissociating her from her sexuality is wrong too.

this is not a joke.

The only one who is making an issue about "dissociating her from her sexuality" is you. No one on here said how they would not have sex with her because of her appearance. It was inappropriate to joke about it since the thread was meant to let people know about this tragedy and offer a way to help the family out. No one is saying that this girl should not have a sex life or that it should not be talked about. Don't try to turn this around into something that it is not. Sex was not the topic nor was her sex life even mentioned until someone did it for a laugh. That's simply not the issue at hand. Defending immoral and offensive comments on the basis of theoreticals does not validate it nor deserve further discussion.

Comment as you like but I'm dropping this part of the issue because it is a diversion from the real importance of the topic.

A young and smart attorney would probably take the case for free and then get a % from the final result. I knew a girl who did that. It was her first case and the client was poor as hell.It took her more than a year before getting a dime but when she got something believe me, it was worth 10 years of labor.

I read this 2 days ago. Saddest thing I've ever seen. I don't think anything else in the Internet has shocked me as much as this girl's story. And I've seen some fucked up shit...

:bawling:

Big B -- did you read the story about how the fire was approaching her? And they didn't have an extinguisher? How the fire couldn't be stopped, how she struggled but couldn't get away???

That is horrifying...

thank you for doing so.. I saw it when I woke up.. if it wasnt sticky yet I was gonna ask for it to be.. but it was ;)

i've seen some horrible things, but that really made me feel bad for her. she is an angel for agreeing to that. almost made me cry :(

It is a pretty horrible thing that happened... After I read her story, I wonder, how good can come out of so much bad. I almost don't want to know the end of the story... but it's storys like this that send the message... that no matter how bad things are... life can still be there... that perhaps... when the sun shines, it will shine brighter...

Reading her story... there were many times that she could have turned back and given up... given up all hope of living... but she didn't because she believed that there is a purpose for her in this world... and that that purpose is worth fighting for. God bless her.

C-ditty

After reading this, NEVER AGAIN will i ever allow any of my friends to drive drunk. I could never imagine the pain of seein this happen to my friends or me. Props to Jaqui for being able to deal with this and still look at life with a positive outlook and hope. Good luck to her and her family.

I'm a prosecutor in Texas. I recieved a packet of information from MADD about two months ago and a poster of this young woman was in it. I had never heard the story behind the picture but was so touched by the poster, I hung it in the lobby of my office. Noe I know the story, it is even more compelling. It is shit like this that gives me the drive to continue prosecuting drunk drivers and making their lives a living hell. I have had to try intoxication manslaughter cases and they a tragic for everyone involved. Unfortunately, Texas still has one of the worst records for DWI fatalities in the country.

so many of you say, there is no God. because if there was he would not have let this happen. no, this is what shows that there is a God!!

can you imagine how many lives this girl has saved!!! just based on the comments that you have written about not letting your friends drive shows that God's purpose in this was great.

through her pain, many will live, and take a taxi

That picture tore to the heart my soul - i'll never be the same ,she is in my prayers!

I don't know why she wants to live, i know i wouldn't. what do you have to look forward to..besides starring in the new darkman movie. but for real, i would never want to live being in that state.

the fact taht she wants to live and share her story are further proof of God. I belive God choose this fate for her because of her amazing inner strength.

Jestin, Ricksoro, distanced... and others... it's comments like you are making that make her story truly rewarding... I feel the same way, and have even been SLAPPED into perspective in my own life...

I realize that what i have is precious... something as simple as opening a can of pop, opening the fridge, or putting on a shirt... I take for granted everyday.... the ability to BLINK... man... and some of the shit I complain about...

Hopefully things like that make people appreciate modern medicine more. People today take scientific developments in medicine for granted. For every Jacqueline whose life is destroyed, 50 lives are saved from other fates just as bad by antibiotics, surgery & pharmaceuticals.

In 20 years she may even be able to obtain realistic looking skin, so she can lead a relatively normal life.

you are letting yourselves be influenced by propoganda.

this is not about alcohol

this is about irresponsible people.

Puc said:

You are so wrong here. That kid drank to much ALCOHOL, caused an accident and killed 2 people and disfigured another one. I think we are just being Influenced by the FACTS of this story. The only irresponsible thing that boy did was drink so much that he decided it was ok to drive. Jaqui has to live with the concequences of his actions. BTW since you seem to have posted the same points on another thread one would think that you have absolutly no problem with alcohol or DRUNK driving (you know driving while intoxicated, driving after drinking too much...etc).

It's horrible that something like this had to happen to her. It just goes on to show you that no matter how much are life might suck one day of the week because we have an headache, a stomach virus or maybe even went through a bad day at work or at school, that there's always somebody that unfortunately has it much worst than we do. That our little problem that seems to be the end of the world for us is nothing. Let's be great full and thank full everyday to have the chance to lead a good life.

This drunk driving shit has got to stop. Every once in a while, I turn on the tv to see yet another alcohol related accident causing injury or death on the news. Kids, teens, young adults, adults and old people are injured or killed as a result of intoxicated driving. No matter how many campaign adds or commercials there are, how many police road blocks to check for intoxicated drivers, or even heftier fines and sentences that continue to go up, it seems like drunk driving is unfortunately still very much a daily happening.

Sigh..

you guys need to be more updated on this case:

http://www.wattslawfirm.com/24_fuel_fire.html

GM settled with her and her family and although the amount is undisclosed, it's been reported on other sites (due to her massive publicity) to be in the tens of millions.

I don't know why they're still asking for money. What about the OTHER thousands of burn victims who didn't get money from GM or trials. Who are just as horribly burned and living in turmoil. Shouldn't that money be dispersed to them as well. What about burn victims in other countries who would LOVE to come to the US and get professional treatment, but can't, and thus suffering in agony in their home countries.

I don't question the act of helping her, i DO question society sometimes. Example: what if instead of being a beautiful young girl, it was a fat black kid in that car. Would a website about him result in all these threads and dollars into his charity account. Is his pain and suffering less important? What if it was an 12 y/o illegal mexican girl smuggled her by her family. No fault of her own. Should she get deported and suffer in her country with no medical attention, or get money from us and best care and doctors to try and put her life back together. What if it was a 67 year old man. Would society just say "ah, he's gonna croak soon anyways, let him suffer".

Too many questions. I like society sometimes to just sit back and ask these questions and think what their answers mean. Personalyl i think money should go into a NATIONAL FUND that deals specifically with burn victims. An organization that looks after people who get into such horrible circumstances and medical insurance and medicare sure won't do squat about them. For importing horribly burned victims around the world and giving them life. That would be my solution. A fund that could help this girl, and MANY girls like her across the country.

back to my coffee.

-= nav =-

If you read carefully her medical treatments already costed over 1.5 millions$. She'll probably need a lot more in the future. Don't forget she's still young.

BTW if a dumb cunt got 24 billions cause she poisoned herself with tobacco, then 10 millions for that is ridiculous.

That’s a bit extreme. I personally would say that advancements in surgery, medical technology and emergency care are the primary life savers that can boast those stats. Drugs and antibiotics are definitely critical in many instances. But for the most part there are entirely too many people who are doped up to the gills having negative patient outcomes solely on the basis of calculated side effects of routine medication. I think the statistic is like 400 people every day in the US die not of overdose, not of mismanagement, but of calculated side effects and their being the minority of people who have unknown contraindications. In my experience, medications kill a significant amount of people when prudence and caution would not have. Add up all the cases of medication interaction, medication mismanagement, medication side effects, etc. and you get a massive number of deaths. Basically, overmedicated we are from my experience. So although I absolutely see your point, I feel it’s not absolutely accurate. My 2 cents.
