the point is, this state is trying to get water from a rock.

they are already 38 billion in debt, and now they passed state covered health costs? where are they going to get the money for it?

that's right, raise taxes. raise taxes on who, you say? the producers. the ones actually working hard and making a decent living, not those living off of the backs of everyone else.

so their plan is to take away money from those who earn it, and pay for the healthcare costs of those who can't afford it. do you actually think the producers are going to put up with a eunormous tax hike, especially since they already have their own medical bills taken care of?

do you actually think new businesses are going to come to california? hell no. the ones there are going to be closing up shop, once they get it in the ass from tax increases.

expect to see the following:

the producers moving elsewhere.
businesses closing up shop and moving.
the lazy and poor moving into california for free health care
thousands losing their jobs.
and in the end, a completely bankrupt state.

you people are completely fucked.

to say the least.

All people require medical care, not just the poor.

The poorest 20% already have medicaid in every state, so they do not need to flock to California.

Businesses will not leave for three reasons:

Universal health care is paid by the people. The businesses save money because they do not need to provide insurance for their employees.

California is the most populace state and therefore has the highest number of consumers. Businesses would be killing themsleves if they left.

The taxes required to pay for universal health care will not cost the average person anymore than before because it is the same amount that people paid for HMOs and other types of health care before.

Finally, because the financial burden of health insurance is removed from businesses (and most people will not see a difference), California will only se more busniess and more working people.

The people that will lose are the HMOs but they will be paid by the state anyway, so they are not losing that much either.

i know the canadian government makes it illegal for drug companies to charge more than a certain amount for prescription drugs.

Canada also bans the advertisement of prescription drugs on television.

Canada is trying to prevent price gouging by the pharma companies that are making record profits on the backs of people who do not need them.

On a side note, Canadians are healtheir than Americans and have less psychological issues than Americans.

I wonder if Canadian policy against drugging its people has anything to do with that.

i also know several drug companies were threatening to to stop selling their products to canadians because of this. but they decided against it, because it would be a bad PR move and canada isnt exactly the largest pharmacuetical market.

if they did that in the US, you can forget about these companies putting out new, innovative, life saving drugs, because there would be no incentive to dump BILLIONS into R&D, if they cant make the profits they want.
I could possibly see this working if a set limit was imposed...Heres an example i cought the flu spring and required 3 days in the hospital, come billing day(here it comes) my hospital room was 10 thousand dollars a day,now i could see a hospital turning a profit on a room at 1 even 2 thousand but ten???get real! Oh BTW my insurance only paid for 1/2 the room i coughed up the other 15 grand!

There is NO REASON why anyone should be without health care in this country or in this state. I mean, its not like we don't have the money, and our state government already picks up the tab on ER visits by the homeless, John or Jane Does, or the very, very poor.

Come on.

Well....

I was going to stay out of this, but here goes.

I agree that we do have the means to ensure all people have access to health care, but of what quality? Oregon came up with a plan that ensured EVERYONE got care, but they had to limit what was covered and not covered so the money would make something that works without creating a crushing tax burden.

I do blame the following for the outrageous costs of medical care....Doctors, Hospitals, Insurance Companies, and Lawyers.

Doctors....For expecting outrageous incomes for a job that is mostly intended to benefit their fellow man. Only the rare specialist should expect much more than their contemporaries.

Hospitals....For being "for profit" institutions. Caring for the sick and injured shouldn't be about pleasing shareholders.

Insurance Companies....For being "for profit" institutions. Their outrageous costs for malpractice insurance only forces Doctors & Hospitals to raise their prices.

Lawyers....For being greedy and encouraging litigation over matters that were honest mistakes and done in a realm where nothing is an exact science and nothing is guaranteed.

Greed has brought us to a point that you CAN'T AFFORD health care without insurance.

Now, as to any proposal for socialized medicine....

YOU DO NOT HAVE A "RIGHT" TO HEALTH CARE!

Look at history. Until the last 50 years, many people only got medical attention if they could afford it. Rich were taken care off. Poor often died younger or lived with disabilities because of poor health care. Doctors serving the poor often did so without compensation. It was a humanitarian matter for them.

Then, health insurance comes into being. It's a wonderful thing, but natural mistakes become malpractice. Which produces lawsuits, which requires malpractice insurance, which raises costs, which raises cost of health insurance, which denys access, which only encourages people to sue a doctor over minor mistakes since for as much as doctors and hospitals charge, you expect them to do everything to perfection. Get the point?

Life is not fair. Get over it.

Socialized medicine takes away the incentive to provide quality care. Doctors and hospitals don't innovate. If you tax everyone who works to support health care costs, you can be damn sure everyone will go to the ER with the sniffles because THIER TAXES paid for it.

I hate paying social security taxes because I won't see a dime of it when I get to retirement (even though my dad gets it now). Money Uncle Sam steals from me to keep old people going could be put into a 401K for myself, but I can't do that. I have to hope on the blatant lie that the system will be there for me.

I hate paying medicare taxes for the same reason. I'm poor, I have no health insurance, but I'm not poor enough to get government help for health care. Why should some slob get something I'm paying for in large part?

So, socialized medicine will make someone like me go to the hospital and demand treatment since I'M PAYING FOR IT.

This will overload the system and bring it crashing down in no time....especially with the number of freeloading "can't-take-responsibility-for-themselves" masses in California.

I'm sure Dr. Nick Riviera will be happy.,
