Is it worth it to do diffrent kinds of squats?

I have seen a few posts describing different kinds of squats, normal, in front squats and overhead squats. Would it be beneficial do do all three during a workout?

Personally I like doing squats and if I could put different kinds of squats in the place of other leg exercises I would.

Well I would say it all depends. If your just joe (or in this case joe anne) blow workout then regular squats should do just fine. If you want to hit every angle then change it up.

I would say change it up just to keep it different. You know one week behind neck, one week in front...etc.

Here is a workout I do on rare occasions that focuses on squat variations:
Set 1:Overhead Squats 5 reps/rest 10 sec
Set 2:Front Squats 5 reps/rest 10 sec
Set 3:Back Squats 5 reps/rest 3 min
-repeat-
The poundages must be altered for every set(usually, weight needs to be added for each set).I got pretty good strength gains using this routine, but for some reason, I go stale pretty quick. Now, I try to keep it for 3 or 4 weeks.

i like incorporating front squats into my routine. For one, front squats are hard and they will literally knock the living hell out of you if you do then correctly. I also like the fact that they hit the lower part of my quad better than back squats. Variation is the key for continual growth.

Hey Smurf
I think it is usefull to do Varying squats although I really don't think overheads are crucial to total leg development. They also take a good deal of upper body strength. Stick to Front Squats Traditional Squats and Machines like a Hoist Hack Squat or a good LegPress, these are all great mass builders as well as shapers. Another great mass builder is Traditional Deadlifts. All of these need to be done w/ perfect form and don't do them all in one day obviously mix it up between your once to twice aweek program. Hope this is useful for you.

I throw in narrow stance squats once in a while. My feet will be about6-10in. apart. I'll do em if I want to isolate quads a little more.

what do you want to get out of training?

is your training sport specific?

Each different squat has a different purpose.

I wouldnt recomend the overhead squats to build leg mass.

I see no reason to do them unless you perform the snatch, or just want stability in the over head position

i throw in front squats sometimes, but like endpoint says, what are your goals?i wouldn't if i was focusing on just power.if you ar looking for mass more so,then i would hit heavy deep squats and a couple sets of fronts or what ever, after a good squat workout you won't be able to do 3-4 more squating exercises.
