So, if I've got it right: Bo would not censor anyone and Spent would censor the malicious. It would be hard to not call BOS malicious.

I'm in my 30's so I well remember what it was like. Impossible not to notice the exponential increases in libel, slander, lawsuits, fraud, depression, suicide, medication, and the breathtaking breakdown of the American family. People simply don't try to cooperate and get along like they used to. It is all about me nowadays.musclebrains said:
I am also appalled by what has happened in the media. I'm sure your, um, parents have told you how unbelievably different it is now from 15 or 20 years ago. I feel sure that my case was enhanced by the fact that it was a matter of a journalist suing journalists.
But part of what specifically appalls me is the authorization of language like BOS's. I would NEVER publish his kind of garbage and it's published all the time now. He is very much an expression of the culture, which values shock and glibness over thoughtfulness now. There's something appealing in it but it's not an appeal to our best part.
Damn TB...interesting ideas there.Test boy said:I'm in my 30's so I well remember what it was like. You may be alarmed if you knew the extent that I hold the media accountable for in contributing to these mega trends. Behavior like BOS's goes unpunished because it is so commonplace and punishment has become a dirty word. In addition, I would argue that writing on this board amounts to a publication of viewpoints so I really don't buy these arguments about "letting it go because it is just an internet chat board." Is the internet a less legitimate form of communication than paper, television, or radio? I don't think so. Actually we have less pressure to respond quickly and so have a lesser excuse for "slips of the tongue."
I'm sure that some would argue that "just anybody" should not be held accountable like a journalist or radio/TV personality. I have never become aware of ethical standards being set up and enforced upon the media nor of any "oaths of decency" that these people must take.
I would stop well short of saying that lawsuits are permissible for internet gaffs but banning is a pretty small consequence for rubbing everyones face in the excrement espoused by minds akin to BOS.
Whatever happened to manners????
