Increasing Jump Height?

Lee

New member
Well I've been doing a lot of toe raises lately with 400 pounds, but that's the whole stack, and its a little to easy, I do sets of 25 3 times. It increased my jump height about an inch cuz now I can get the tips of my fingers over the top of regulation rim. But I wanna be able to dunk, since I'm 6'5" its sorta expected of me, hehe. Anyone have and suggestions?

i saw some dude at my club yesterday doing a squats with 135, and he would do a litle hop at the top of each rep, he said it increased his veritcal by 4" in 2 weeks, i might give this a try

Some guys like to use the Leg Press to do calf raises, just load it up, then lift with your toes on the edge of it, but DONT unlock it...no need to. By the way, quads are more important than calfs for overall vert. Good luck with squats.

I would think to optimize your vertical leap, you ought to become as lean & light as possible while maximizing your calf size/strength.

Remember...

well im not the body type to be super lean, but im gettin there. i guess i just gotta build my leg strength up without gettin em to big

calves are like 5-10% of a jump, hardly worth it!

Glutes and erectors - 40%
hamstrings - 25%
Shoulders - 15%
quads, calves etc 20%

This will change depending on yoru jumping style - how erect your torso is etc. Anyway you gotta work your hips and lower back and shoulders. first work on strnegth, then speed/power and then depth jumps.

Russian research into their weightlifter show that those with the stronger hamstrings jump higher. If the quads are too strong, then the weaker hamstring inhibt the total power of the leg/hips.

I jump high and I have a big ass - that's the key = 40% glutes and erectors :D
Full squats does the job here.
