Just found this site today! It's nice to see a site with women body builders in it. I've worked out with men in the military but their work-outs are not geared towards the female body. I've been thinking of doing a fitness competition in the next year. I have a trainer here in town who thinks I have a good build to do a fitness competition. Unfortuantely I'll be losing him come January because he's trying out for U of M football team. So I thought maybe this would be a good place to start. I'm really not sure where to begin. I love to run and keep hearing I need to cut my running down to gain mass. I would like to gain some muscle and definition. I'm 5'7 136 pounds (gained 3 over the holiday's). I have been trying the 6 small meals a day. I keep hearing about a clean diet... I think my diet is pretty clean but then I read another article and wonder what clean really means? I also hear a lot of the different phases someone goes through... Can anyone recommend soem good reading material, or advice?
Thanks!

Hi Treilin! Welcome to the boards!

"Clean" diet generally means staying away from processed foods & sticking to as natural and as balanced as possible. There are gradations of "clean" as far as what your goals are. You can range from a "maintenance" diet to a full-on competition diet.

If you want to do an evaluation of your current diet, post up what you eat & when you eat and we'll pick it apart. One thing to realize about dieting, particularly if you have a goal such as a competition in mind, even the cleanest diet has room for tweaking. You never want to let your body get comfortable w/ the current eating schedule if you are looking to produce particular changes. It is a constant change / response exercise.
