wtf? American Express black or what? My highest limit is 17k and having that much scares me to death.

In the last year I've had my identity stolen twice. On one card I pay fraud protection so that was covered, on the other I didn't and that was covered just as well. Some guy was trying to get as many porn subscriptions as he possibly could within a 24hr window. Pretty funny stuff.

Luckily you are only responsible for up to $50 in charges if you report it within 30 days of getting your statement. Most credit card companies won't even hold you responsible for the $50.

Someone once charged a $5200 Alienware computer system to my American Express... the same day I bought a new MacBook. Amex called asking if I bought two new computer systems on the same day. I never found out how they got my number, but it impresses me how accurate Amex's fraud detection department is. The lady who called said they knew something was up because the shipping address was listed as being in NYC.

You can also buy insurance that is like 10$ a month that protects you from identity theft.

Yea, but there really is no point in it. As I said I've had fraud on two accounts, one with the protection, one without. The outcome was the same.

Generally speaking its pretty easy to detect the fraud if your registered address is in OH and someone in CA just spend 5k on a computer and is having it shipped to CA. Also, if you regularly put 2k a month on plastic and do something out of the ordinary as putting 5 or 10k on a card in one day they will call just to be sure.

My Amex is set to have me vocally confirm any purchases over 5k at any one time. They do that for free.
