I need help on squat/ deadlift suits/ briefs!!!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the help so far. I have become quite familiar with all the bench shirts, but have never owned or lifted in a squat suit, deadlift suit, or briefs.

Was hoping someone could give me an overview of what to purchase first (I squat and dead just over 500 w/o suits).

Was wondering if I should just start out with something cheap to do my DE work in, like a champion or z-suit (which one is better?)

Also, how do I use briefs? Do I wear them under my squat suit? Under any squat suit?

And do I wear the briefs/ squat suit when I deadlift? Or do I need a whole other deadlift suit?

So should I go with some cheap stuff first to get used to doing lots of reps in on DE day, and continue to use the single ply poly on De day, and then upgrade to a Phillips Squat Suit for meets, and what about briefs and deadlifts/ deadlift suit?

Hey AnimalMass1,

First, I think it's a good idea to have a set of training equipment and a set of meet equipment. A good starting point would be a basic squat suit such as the Champion, Z-Suit or any manufacturers basic suit. I have a basic double Champion and it's quick and easy to train with but just gives enough support to aid the lift without taking you out of your groove. Same advice goes for the briefs, just some basic single or double briefs. The briefs are worn under the squat suit but you'll have to check the rules of the Fed you lift in because the use of briefs in conjunction with a squat suit can be tricky (none vs. single-ply vs. double-ply and length down the leg and up the torso). Many train in a pair of briefs or in a suit with the straps down.

You can use the squat suit and briefs to deadlift in but you may or may not see a benefit. If you get a suit designed specifically to help your deadlift (Crain Genesis, MaxDL, etc...) it will probably give you better results. These things are hit-or-miss though and you won't truely know if any equipment will aid you until you actually try it. Many top deadlifters use only a singlet to pull in because it allows them to get down to the bar better and stay in their groove.

My advice is to start with a basic squat suit and add equipment as you see necessary. You don't have to wear briefs or a specialized deadlift suit. When you go into competition you will want a separate set of equipment that is as close to the top-of-the-line stuff as possible. It needs to be quite a bit tighter and certainly used less frequently. Practice in the meet equipment as your competition draws near so that you can correct any technique flaws.

When we get together in two weeks be sure to bring this topic up again and we talk about the subject face to face. It will be a good opportunity to have an open, round-table discussion.

i would suggest getting a champion suit to train in, and a Titan custom tailored to compete in.

You can use the champion to get used to feel of the suits, and the titan to reall kick some ass. The titan custom tailored is supposedly better than the hard core, but around 1/3rd the price, and is completely custom made just for you.
The Champion runs about 40$ and the custom tailored 65.

As for bench shirts, get a HD Blast and then a fury..
The HD blast will ge tyou use to benching in a shirt, and then the fury will be you meet shirt.

The fury runs you about 85$, the HD Blast about 55$

if you cant afford all that, then i would just get the titan fury bench shirt, and a Titan Victor squat suit(50$) (the titan victor is the same as the custom tailored, except it only comes in stock sizes.)

Thanks guys.

Deceiver, I am very familiar and comfortable with bench shirts. I just have never used or owned a squat suit.

So why should I go with the Champion suit over the Z-suit? What's the difference?

What I'll do is go ahead and order the basic Inzer suit and briefs, and play around in those a little.

the only difference between the z- suit and champion is the z-suit has wider straps, and hurts a lot more due to the leg lock design.

If you want them to hurt, or you like wider straps and are afraid of having your suit slip up a bit, than by all means go with the z-suit.

IMO: inzers squat stuff is a little behind. there bench shirts are still my favorite.

a good pair of briefs can go a long ways in helping keep those hips pain and injury free if you are a wide-stance westsider.

you wear the briefs under your suit at a meet. i train in these on dynamic squat day year round.

i add a suit before meets. i would recommend a poly suit to start with (frantz is my pref). to me they are more comfortable. when you start moving the big numbers, you may want to go to a canvas. i have one, but i still feel like i am fighting it a lot. polys are more forgiving of measurements and weight being used.

good luck.

irish- what do you think (if you have an opinion about it) of the titan NXG squat suits... im thinking about ordering a victor (basic one)

OK cool, getting closer then.

Irish, I never had a chance to thank you for your Website. I have watched every video on there, and it is a great resource.

I'll probably go with the z-suit, as pain doesn't bother me since my denim bench shirt makes me bleed on a damn 3-board.

Also, my middle thiigh area is slightly larger than the upper thigh area due to the fact that there are always about 20ml of oil just "hanging out" in my thighs.

im not sure how much they help, but im sure they couldnt really hurt...

and you can wear them on both squat and dead.

Well, here goes with my opinion. Take it as what you may.

For training:

Frantz double groove briefs. I have grown to really! like there stuff. Great product, and a great turnaround. The z suit is gonna be a pain in the ass to wear. Even people that say they like theres complain about how uncomfortable they are. Just stick with the Frantz groove briefs until you start to get up to 700 or so and then you can experiment with the canvas. They are hard to get right. I got one and am gonna end up getting rid of it. I outgrew it. Plus if your big, they are a pain. You can't breathe in them.

Deadlift: Well people go both ways. The people I know who have actually tried a purpose built deadlift suit say that it adds 50 pounds. I haven't and most people that haven't tried one say that there is no way it could add 50 pounds. I think this is something that you will have to figure out yourself. The two that I would consider are Inzer and Frantz.

Erector shirts are kind of a tossup. You could try one out. But before you get one I would try the other equipment, you may find you don't need one.

Good luck

okie... you can get the canvas tailored so that there is more room in chest and gut... it will help you breath.

but you are right... they are a bitch to get measured.

i hear you are gaining weight faster than the ethopian set loose in Old Country Buffet. So maybe, it is a good idea for you to not go canvas for a bit.

OK, so what I'll do is order the Frantz briefs (Big Okie, give me some hints on these, and exactly what I need to order).

And then I'll probably go ahead and get the champion suit, just so that I have something cheap with straps to play around with in training. I mena, they are so cheap, why not play around with them?

Then, in a few months, I'll try to get a nicer suit, and maybe start giving the other stuff a try, like erector shirts, and deadlift suits.

Thanks for the imput!

Get the double briefs from Frantz. I believe they are still 55 bucks. They also make a poly if your gonna get a poly suit also. I would start with the briefs and then move into the suit. And then maybe move into canvas. The briefs can be ordered just about any way you want them. So just call and talk with them. Let me know if you want the number. Later

Whats wrong with Inzer briefs????

I got a pair and they are EXCELLENT TESTICLE STRANGLERS.

If you wish to suffocate your balls, I would highly recommend a tight pair of Inzer briefs..

No but seriously whats your guys knock on the Inzer briefs??? Just curious.

Mike

I don't really think anyone is knocking Inzer Briefs, they are suppose to be fine. It's just that most people say that the Frantz Briefs arer far more superior than any others.
