I found out I have cancer

I dont even know where to start......

My hand has been having this wierd pain lately, kind of like a dull, tender pain, it also feels sort of pressurized, very hard to describe.

So I went to the doctor, After a while of examining it he said he could not find anything wrong, but I insisted there was. So he said "lets go to radiology and check it out." So they proceed to take x-rays of my hand and such.

The doc sits me down and in a wierd monotone voice says "Im sorry but you have rare inoperable malignant fibero-sistic tumor in your left carpral vessele"

I said what does that mean, he then said "Im sorry but you have cancer of the fist"

WHAT THE FUCK? cancer of the fist?

He said that they can remove the "vessele" that runs through my hand and wrist, rendering my hand almost useless forever, or they can leave it alone monitor it and see if it regresses or stays the same size.

Fuck I dont want to be a gimp....

oh no. Im sorry man.

tough call poyeboy. Find out if that particular cancer is likely to metastasize, or spread.

If it is, then i guess its pretty clear what kind of options ur looking at.

:(

That sucks dude... how the hell does that work by servering a "vessel?" damn... will it affect grip, or just everything about your hand?

Man, shit like this pisses me off... is there any other type of therapy? I'd be hitting the bricks... either with my fists, or by calling doctors getting opinions.

C

damn dude sorry to hear about that... and as citrus said look around for as many options and opinions as you can get.

get on the internet and do a seach about it. find out where the best doctors in the USA are that specialize in it, and your insurance should cover it if you get a referral. well, at least i hope they do.

i think you should definitely get a second or even third opinion asap.

i have no words to describe something like this...we're pullin for you man. like someone else posted, read as much as possible about this as you can so you know the pros and cons of all the options and you can make as informed a decision as possible about what is best. Also i agree, get multiple oppinions about it.

I am sorry to hear that man.

Look for the world renowned specialist..

ALL THAT IN JUST ONE QUICK VISIT TO THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE WITH NO TESTS OR BIOPSIES. HMMMM, YOUR DOCTOR MUST BE A CLAIRVOYANT.

1. Collect all of your medical records and x-rays immediately. You are going to need copies of them when you visit a new physician and you don't want the delays of having individual doctors/hospitals sending them to each other.

2. Find one (1) primary care physician who is a specialist in this type of cancer and work with him to come to understand your options. Don't run from doctor to doctor. Work with one (1) and have HIM set you up for second oppinions if you need them - refering the results of the second oppinions back to him.

3. Be aggresive... there are usually a lot of options for this that you are unaware of... and the first doctor you visit is unaware of.

4. Educate yourself as much as possible... specifically about cancer and this type of cancer.

I DOUBT HE IS SERIOUS. ONE DOCTORS VISIT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN HE HAS CANCER!!! IS THERE DEAD FISH AROUND HERE. CUZ I'M SMELLING SOMETHING.

This is the best advice you can get. Good luck poyeboy, my wife had cancer it was a very tough tiime but she came through it alright. You have to be very agressive with the docs. Get busy!

If you're serious, I wish you well, but there is no such part of the body as "the fist".

A fist is a position you put your hand in.

Plus, I doubt your general medicine physician could diagnose cancer based on an in-office x-ray, without consulting a cancer specialist.

I'm with KAYNE on this one...I know many people that got cancer and they all had to have biopsies. Even when it's breast cancer and they can clearly see it in an xray they still do a biopsy.

cancer of the fist? Never heard of it. I hope this isn't some joke. If it isn't, best of luck to you. I lost a friend to cancer a few years back. He wasn't even 25 yet.

sorry to hear this. that's really shitty news. i can't add anything more valuable than sofageorge's advice, but i wish you good luck and i hope that if it really is cancer, it doesn't spread and you keep full use of your hand. and i agree, "cancer of the fist" does not sound very professional.

hmmm, cancer of the fist? dont make a fist and it goes away...

seriously, that means you SHOULD NEVER TYPE... so dont post anymore and you'll be fine...

this fuckin guy is full of shit, take a look at his other posts.

I thought about that. ALL cancers are diagnosed by BIOPSY. You can't look at them under x-ray, MRI, or CAT scan and tell... so you need exploatory surgery, a sample taken, and a lab analysis.

Also, what doctor describes it as "...cancer of the FIST..." instead of cancer in the HAND.

That said - I would still give him real advice.

If he is yankning people's chains, real life karma will mow him over. If he really has his condition - he needs good advice now no matter how he describes it or unintentionally ommitted details.

I think without a biopsy they could tell you that you have a tumor, but that doesn't mean that it is cancerous.

in the end, I hope all is cool - joke or not, I hope the hand/fist ends up okay.

THE "CANCER OF THE FIST" IS WHAT THREW ME OFF AS WELL. ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER SUSPICIOUS DETAILS. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE CANCER AND IT TAKES MANY TESTS TO PROVE ITS CANCERS LET ALONE TO KNOW IF ITS INOPERABLE OR NOT. BESIDES, IF ITS IN THE HAND, I DOUBT IT CAN BE INOPERABLE BARRING IT IS IN THE MARROW. IN WHICH CASE, IT WOULDNT BE "CANCER OF THE FIST". LOL.

WHERE IS BABYDOC WHEN YOU NEED HIM???

hmm......if u do have the cancer and just forgot to tell us about a biopsy i hope u are ok

but follow the adice on here, and if u are joking, it isnt funny. if u aren;t i wish u the best

Why did you wake a year old thread?

If there is anything I've learned from this board, it is that 3 out of 4 people that I have heard have cancer, really are just making it up.

PoyeBoy, how did surgery go? I was diagnosed with Driscoll's Firmament a few weeks ago, and I don't even know where to begin :(

And the other 1, Lie about it. jk

I only read the first few posts here. I'm sorry to hear about your hand. But...

Look if they're telling you that you've got cancer after only doing x-rays and no biopsy or anything else then your doctor is a quack. You need to go to another doctor and get a second opinion. You should do it soon.

I thought doing that stuff only made you blind?

Ok but I moved this here and took it out of the C&C board. I dont think this stuff should be tolerated in the future. Anyway :)
