huge legs

I was fortunate enough to train with Platz last year, hanged out with him and his wife for 2 weeks. This guy turns heads everywhere! Even at his rertired stage, his legs and calves have a freaky transparent look to them when he walks...unbelievable!!!

Tell us more about this!:D

I flew out to California to learn how to fuckin squat like Tom. I asked if he could teach my sorry ass how to squat like him. He said he could teach me to adopt good form and technique within a 2 week period. So I flew my ass out to LA and met Tom and his wife!
A lot of guys never develop awesome leg development because many don't realize there are many factors, ingredients for mastering the Platz Squats (Olympic squats done with a bent bar)
Heres how I trained for two weeks:
a. Core strenght development
b. Speed strenght development
c. Flexibility (especially ankle)
d. Motor pathway development
e. Dynamic balance
f. Accessory and stabilizing muscle development
g. Compensatory accelaration
h. Agility
This is the kind of stuff you don't read about in mags, they never associate this type of training with squats.
It kicks ass being the only Mother Fucker at my Gym who knows squat!
Oh yeh, Tom introduced my ass to Arnold:supercool, Flex wheeler, Joe Gold, Cory Everson (I think I wet my pants huggin her). I remember Franc Columbo there with Arnold. It was funny, when Tom greeted Columbo, his ass couldn't even look Tom in the eye!:D

care to explain more on the flexibility and agility and balance issues?

Being able to perform very strict squats - your butt touching the ground, your knees are in front of your toes - you need to develop a high degree of ankle and hip flexion.
Balance - most people who squat poorly tend to at an angle were it is sort of a forward lean rather than an up-and down angle which requires a degree of balance. Developing good balance and muscle stabilizers prevents many knee injuries and helps keep your back more erect were you squat more of an up-and down movement in which the stress is directly on your quadriceps. (not your ass or lower back)
As far as why improving agility etc., was important in helping me squat better...I don't remember his reasons. I was more like, "Whetever you say Tom, lets do this".:D

wait....did you jsut call Tom up and say, 'im comin over for 2 weeks, show me how to squat...'

if thats the case ill save up money and visit Arnold...

You would be crazy to visit Arnold instead of the great Platz!! Arnold never had legs any larger than 29 inches. Platz on the other hand had 34 inch legs.

If you are intested in squatting weight for strength. . . . . make a visit or read books published by Dr. Fred Hatfield.
