ive been lifting for about 3 yrs(body building) and i got a new job as manager of a new gym in my area ,and there are alot of powerlifters in this gym and they compete in NASA . there are two ther in my weight class and one of them is going to the world champion ships and his bench is 420(with a shirt) and my bench is 405 with out a shirt,i was wondering if i started training for power could i be a competitve bench presser ,i cant squat or dead heavy do to spine problems so any comments or constructive critisism
thanks ZUESS

squat and dead lift make up a very large component of the total for a powerlifter......so if you cant do those lifts your total will be very small.

Also your form plays a lot as well. You may bench press 405......but would a judge think it was legit?

From what everyone says around here you should compete for fun, learn and set goals.

I will be competing in australia with the weights of a 90year old woman.......but im just going to do it for fun......see how i rank and if i like it. Im sure i will have a blast. dont know about the spandex!

If yuou cant squat or dead just specialize on the bench. Lots do that. Yes you would be competitve. Get a shirt and learn it. If you have a good shirt you could easily surpass your buddy.

I would defintily go with denim. Just learn it now and instead of switching from the poly. I really have no idea of the rules in nasa but what ever is allowed use it. As far as sizing, man i am so radical in sizing but my first denim i went 1 inch smaller in the chest and shoulders and exact in the arms (all relaxed measurements). If they allow velcro back get it. If not you should still have no problem getting it on with those measurements. Good luck and give em hell!
