How should I train for Academy?

Well, its a long time away (7 months), but I'm looking at Police Academy and I have about 30lbs of fat I want to lose. How do I prepare for this? Here's a run down of what I have to expect:

4:45 - wake up
5-6 - Physical training aka running
6-7 shower, etc
7-8 breakfast
8-9 room and personal inspection
9-noon academic instruction
noon-1 lunch
1-4 academic instruction
4-5 drill
5-6 supper
6-7 run with staff
7-9 study
9-10 free time
10 lights out

This is a military-style setup, locked barracks, etc. I've got a friend who went through a similar academy and it was hell on wheels for him. He was untrained and didn't expect this. I don't want to make the same mistakes.

My confusion is that I want to be able to run the distances, but NEED to lift weights and burn off the fat/increase strength.

Doing both seems counter productive. Do I need to start off lifting, burn the fat, then move over to running? They recommend being able to run at least 3 miles before showing up for Academy.

Where do I need to start?

personally train how you will be tested etc at the academy. you sound out of shape, so do your running, pushups, pullups, situps etc... once you are "in shape", then the academy should not be to stressful. if you get your endurance down and can do the pullups, pushups etc then you will be fine. NEVER settle for the "least" requirments, shoot higher. just do the stuff that you will be doing in ur academy PT.

Where are you working? Just curious cuz cop jobs are hard to get nowadays..

I've got applications in everywhere right now. I'd like to stay around my college town in Alabama. I like it here. Its a lot harder to get hired these days, but the Academy here is what will kill you (montgomery and Selma at least). They are both in the top 5 in the nation last i heard.
