How often do you DeadLift ?

well after reading that it should only be done bi weekly I'm thinking of doing that, just once every two weeks having one day strictly for deads, both regular and stiff.

how often do you deadlift? i have always been doing them once a week

well, if you're talking about conventional deads (from the floor), i do them almost every week. so in general in deadlift once a week. once in a while i'll replace it for bent over rows but in general, once a week. although i'm starting to get the feeling that may be too taxing for me, since i tend to go all out when i'm doing deads.

yeah i'm talking full deads off the floor, those are what i do 90% of the time. Once in a great while ill do some rack deads, and sometimes some light stiffies after regular deads. I'm basically just looking for everybodies inclusion of deads, wether theyre full, stiffies, or racks, into their program

gman, refresh my memory...you do these in what rep range? What % of max? In other words, are you powerlifting, 5x5, BB?

yes deads every week have been great. adding thickness and width and i would hate to have to cut down but it is this thread that has me thinking

i've read the thread as well. lately, my lower back is feeling a little tight for a couple days after i dead as well (i maintain good form though). i'd like some advice on this as well. i'm using deads as my 5x5 exercise, maybe this is too much? spatts (or anyone else), what would you advise, rep/set-wise?

i started doing deads in november i think, and had been doing 5x5 up until the past few times i've done them. Now i've been aiming for 8 reps and doing 4 sets, but i think i like the 5x5 better. I just did that to switch it up though and see how my body would react to higher reps.

i go pretty heavy, not 1rep maxes, but on my last or second to last set i use weight wear i can only pull 3 or 4 reps.

Then I'd say once a week, with plenty of recovery before those muscles get hit again. That's my vote. :)

I only pull heavy (from the floor, contest style) about 2-5 times per year.

Same here, B. Thats why I asked him how heavy he was going, if it was full ROM, etc...

The way that I look at it...if I pull for a new 1RM on my contest lift...what did I build? I just wasted a week of training by doing the contest lift. All I did was 'test' my lift when I could have spent the same day building it stronger.

If I know that what I am doing is making me stronger in the deadlift...then why should I 'test' it?

i deadlift 28 times a day. i find that if i do too many then i get too much mass, i like staying lean at a skinny 285lbs.

28 times??? geez.. you must play in the back row ;)

my preference-- stiff-leg deads once a wk.

i actually just pred on deads last thursday at 350, i was very impressed with myself since i hadnt done deads for reals in like a year

i like bfolds logic, for me it doesnt make sense to go for a 1rep max. i think 4-6 reps for deads is the best for adding size and overall strength

Well...that isn't my logic at all. Well...it sorta is. I build the deadlift with many other exercises that do not tax the spine nearly as much...

What you wanna do right is cut out the deadlifts and just bench.

Bench 6 days a week.

285lbs? You should be getting approximately 90g protein a meal, 7 meals a day.

Can't go wrong.
