how much protean

Just a little question about protean. They say you should eat about 1 to 1.5 grams per pound of body weight. Now I’m a big guy and I’m also working on getting my weight down but I can’t see eating the amount of protean at my current body weight. So what, I’m guessing is I should figure my intake on what my lean body mass should be. Is that right? My lean body mass is around 165 to 170. I should be eating around 170 grams of protean. Does this sound right to your guys? I’m having trouble trying to loose weight and eat enough food to gain muscle. Any ideas? Are there any web sites that have info on heavy peeps trying to loose fat and gain muscle? Thanks

I am currently attempting to lose weight while maintaining strength and muscle mass using a low carb cycled diet. I take in a lot of protein, somewhere around 150 to 250 a day, and I figure my lean muscle mass is about 160. Personally I think that keeping protein intake high while dieting helps to maintain muscle mass. But, the diet I am on maybe different diet than you.

How much do u weigh now? 170 grams of protein divided by six meals a day will only give u about 28 grams per meal. That may not be enough for u if you're a big guy. You can start with 170g a day and then as u get used to taking in protein each meal, then up it to at least 200grams a day divided amongst your meals. I am curious to know what you are weighing now though. :)

Right now I weight 300lb. I have just started to get into bodybuilding. I have always liked lifting weights but never took it serious. I’m getting much stronger and you can see the difference in my arms. I just wanted to make sure I was eating enough protein and not starving the muscle.

You also have to take into account that if you are restricting your calories some of the protein you take in will be converted to use as fuel instead of going to repair muscle tissue. Personally I would rather eat too much than not enough protein.

You should eat 1.0 or greater protein per pound of actual body weight. If you are decreasing carbs and fats, then up the protein to 1.5 grams or more. Eating 5-6-7 meals a day with high protein, will help you actually lose some fat IF you watch your sugar intake and carbs/fats.
