How much glutamine?

I just bought a couple bottles of 1000mg glutamine to help with my bodybuilding. How much should I take, and when? The bottle says 1 caplet once or twice a day. I'm no expert, but I'm sure that is a hell of a slim dosage. I read about hitting 5g post-workout, and a buddy of mine agrees with that. He also said to crush them and mix them with a drink, just so its not a pain in the ass taking 5 of these things.
 
Both my whey and casein powders already have glutamine. 16 and 19 grams per 100 respectively.

Does that change anything?

There was a lot of talk a while back about taking glutamine and pps at the same time. It was said that unless you're taking glutamine peptides, there will be absorbtion problems with the glutamine. Riskybizz could probably shed some more science on this.

I'd say five caps before bedtime should be sufficient.
 
I don't take it but have been doing some research on the subject. The best reports I have seen say to take 10-20grams per day on training days depending on intensity. 5-10 grams on days off.
