How many of us have had failed hernia repairs?

I've developed the suspicion that elective hernia repair is really a bit of a surgical scam. I've known a few people who've re-herniated the same injury even with the supportive sub-abdominal patch and having properly observed the suggested healing period.

Now it's happened to me. A small umbilical hernia repaired in 12/08 began to develop a noticeable knot again last June. All the way fully ruptured again. 18 fricking months before blowing out again.

I'm thinking hernia repair surgery has a high failure rate for those of us who pump iron. Opine peeps.

hmm could be.. have you had children?? would explain some..

do you currently use anything that will increase red blood cells?? Volume wise?? and hows the BP??

all factors..

No kids, RBC count and size normal, BP a bit on the low side.

This wasn't even a big hernia by any means and the thing still blew out again. What's more I never work below 6 reps, so really heavy poundages aren't a factor.

My father lost a testicle due to a crappy hernia patch job. Still gives him phantom nut pain sometimes. Had a better doctor use a better patch with a more appropriate procedure redo it and take out the boy. It seems there are alot of doctors out there only comfortable doing one type of patch and use that particular procedure on everyone whether or not it is the best choice.
