How many cals do you really eat when bulking?

To get good gains without getting too fat. I've decided to give massive eating a try but the cals are higher than I've ever gone. Curious to get some opinions.

Please along w/ the cals, post your weight, bf, and "on" or "off" for accuracy.

depends on your metabolism you could eat 3000-4000 and gain a respectable amount of muscle without fat or you could eat 5000-7000 if you have a high metabolism it all depends on how high your metabolism

i have been eating at 4500 and gained 20 pounds in 4 months not very much fat if any at all!! i started bulking with a 29 in waist and i have a 30 in waist but it is also due 2 doing weighted sit ups just be sure to train your mid section as hard as you do the rest!! good luck!

o and about my cardio i dont do any running or anything like that i jump on my trampoline and race bmx and in spring and fall summer i do crew i also swim in the summer

i was just wondering cause i know for me at 4,500 calories and natural i would put on a ton of fat eventhough i am 5'8" and 175lbs at about 9%....i'm just tryin to dial in the right amount of calories to get some lean gains

I agree, but meathead sounds like a pretty active guy, his maintanace is probably over 3500.

Also, meathead are you sure your actually getting 4500 cals daily? I know on days when i'm active and what not, I can easily think I'm eating alot but when I look back, I only had maybe 5 or 6 meals w/ 600 cals or so each...which doesn't really add up to an effective bulker...especially if your active.

Age has a lot to do with it. At age 15 I could eat everything, literally EVERYTHING I saw and never gain a pound. And I wasn't a bird eater either, I packed down the food and then some. I lived with my grandparents in high school who are from Oklahoma so I would have pancakes, eggs, fried potatoes, gravy and biscuits, etc.. for breakfast. For dinner I'd have things like pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, bread & butter with apple butter, etc... My grandma put oil in everthing and didn't know what low-fat meant. Then of couse like most teenagers I supplemented my diet with pizza, french fries, 6 packs of soda, cheeseburgers, cookies, etc... on a daily basis. I never played sports yet I managed to maintain a very lean physique my entire childhood up until my twenties. I graduated high school at 6', 185lbs and was less than 10% bodyfat and I never lifted weights.

When I hit my early 20's however the fat got revenge from all those years of neglect and eventually found a way to wedge itself firmly under my skin.

So it's hard to gauge your metabolism against teenagers(unless you are one as well), unless they are some of the unlucky ones that have a slow metabolism from the start. If you want to pack on muscle with as little fat as possible then I suggest going to Animal's board, check the forums and look for a post titled "cycles for pennies". It's a huge thread but inside lies all you need to know to get what you want. Doggcrap has laid out the basics from his years of experience and after reading all of the success stories I tried it out. I have to say I was able to eat more calories than I ever thought I could and managed to not gain a pound of fat. In fact I lost weight on what I thought was maintenance calories.

Combine DC's methods with the right supplements(searth the same forums for "anarchy stack" and I think you will be amazed.

Well, a good place to start is maintenance + 500 or 600 cals.
(15xbw + 500). Then you can adjust from there if you're not gaining fast enough, or if you're gaining too much bf.

If you are comming off a cutting diet, maintenance calories will usually cause growth just because of the increase in calories that your body notices. This only lasts for 2-4 weeks though, but it will usually keep you from gaining alot of fat right after a cutting diet. All this is given your eating clean and all that.

The Mr. X articles on mass diets is another good way to keep bf increases down, but increase muscle mass. It's based on eating differently on off days and workout days.

Best of luck man!
