How long should 5 sets of squats take?

I'm doing the 5x5 and it seems to me like it takes me too long to do them. I could shorten my rest periods, but then I probably wouldn't be able to put up 5 reps.
 
I can do my 8 sets in about 4-6 minutes I believe...

My 5x5 for squats and deads, well basically all my 5x5 compound movements take a loooong time! Probably too long, but it is the only way I can complete all 5 for 5.
 
5 sets probably takes me about 7-10 minutes, I try for only one minute rest between sets I know I am a glutton for pain
 
I know many will dissagree, but I like to run all set to failure/near failure, and I use the approprate amount of wieght for that........ BUT...... I'm always out of breath after each set....... so, I like to take a long enough break that I get my breath fully back, which is sometimes as much as 5 minutes...... I'm not training for endurance or calorie burn.... I just want to lift as much weight as possible (with proper form)..... so I take a long time on squats and deads.
 
Ok, that makes me feel better. I take about 20 minutes for 5 sets of deads and 25 for 5 sets of squats. I have to sit down and catch my breath after squats usually.
 
do you lift at UNC's facility? i miss lifting there...well, kinda. NC State's gym is much more ghetto than yours, but i kinda like it. i just dont like walking out of the place covered in rust.

I do that also. I set a time limit of 20 minutes for squats- warmup then 20-15-12-8-4 reps give or take. Sometimes 2 or maybe 3 minutes between sets depending on how out of breath I am.
Usually after those 20 minutes, I can't even squat my bodyweight.
 
If you're doing the 5x5 program, the key is to be able to make all your reps, so when training that way I rest between 3-5 minutes between sets, depending on how I'm feeling
