How do you work out "light"

I'm used to working out as hard and heavy as I possibly can all the time.
I broke my pinky and I had tennis elbow (I only get it when I work out and I've been out of the gym for a while so I don't know if it's still there), so my doctor told me not to work out heavy for 6 weeks.

Problem is, how do you work out light?

Use light weight and do 30reps? Doesn't that exhaust your body almost as much as using heavy weight for 10?

Use light weight for 10-12 reps? I wouldn't feel like I'm doing anything.

I know this is a stupid question, but I just need some advice from other people that might have had injuries before.

If I can get 5 or more reps then i consider it light..... Albeit I train Westside so I do singles and triples for my heavy work....

for me it means higher reps and a couple notches down in intensity. Not just going thru the motions but not balls to the wall training to failure.
