How did you get HIV+?

HI,

Of all the stories we have heard in the media. It would be interesting to know, how you persoanlly got HIV+. Did you have unprotected sex? Did a condom break? etc..

Well , I do not have HIV but a very good friend of mine has HIV and the way he contracted it was from Heterosexual Sex, yes that is right guys you can get it from a chick, he did. It was also his only time having unprotected sex with her. She knew and never said anything. She did not take care of herself and she passed away, he takes care of himself and is doing great and he is not even detectable and this is after 6 years.

I got it from a sweet innocent lil preppy chick I was dating off and on back in 86. As of 98 I progressed to HIV3 (or) AIDS.

- If this is true than he should be published in the JAMA. Chances of a single episode of unprotected sex transmitting HIV from female to male are less than 1/10,000.

No offense, but I would suggest your friend is not being 100% truthful.

Where on earth did you get this 1/10,000 chance of transmittal figure from? HIV can transmit through ANY mucus membrane and in the event you didn't realize it or maybe you should check your college anatomy text, but the head of the penis IS a mucus membrane. This is more apparent on a person that is uncut and the likelihood of transmission is somewhat higher on someone who is uncut than someone who is cut. The head is more "dried out" on a guy that is cut and somewhat "toughened." I have never heard of the 1/10,000 statistic. If this is true, then why is the teenage female group the fastest growing group seroconverting to HIV positive? I suspect it isn't because they are just "bumping pussies" together. This means some GUY has to be spreading it and if there is only 1/10,000 chance of a guy getting it from unprotected sex, then this guy must get around an awful lot to infect all those teenage girls!!!

Just for your information, a ten year random testing/random location study was completed recently. Apparently 75% of the guys that tested positive for HIV had NO idea that they were HIV positive and had genuinely believed that they were HIV negative. Something to think about!

Heterosexual Transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Northern California
Results from a Ten-year Study
To examine rates of and risk factors for heterosexual transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the authors conducted a prospective study of infected individuals and their heterosexual partners who have been recruited since 1985. Participants were recruited from health care providers, research studies, and health departments throughout Northern California, and they were interviewed and examined at various study clinic sites. A total of 82 infected women and their male partners and 360 infected men and their female partners were enrolled. Over 90% of the couples were monogamous for the year prior to entry into the study; <3% had a current sexually transmitted disease (STD). The median age of participants was 34 years, and the majority were white. Over 3,000 couple-months of data were available for the follow-up study. Overall, 68 (19%) of the 360 female partners of HIV-infected men (95% confidence interval (CI) 15.0-23.3%) and two (2.4%) of the 82 male partners of HIV-infected women (95% CI 0.3-8.5%) were infected. History of sexually transmitted diseases was most strongly associated with transmission. Male-to-female transmission was approximately eight times more efficient than female-to-male transmission and male-to-female per contact infectivity was estimated to be 0.0009 (95% CI 0.0005-0.001). Over time, the authors observed increased condom use (p<0.001) and no new infections. Infectivity for HIV through heterosexual transmission is low, and STDs may be the most important cofactor for transmission. Significant behavior change over time in serodiscordant couples was observed.

Bro, I hate to tell you this, but that was written back in 1997. Probably by a white, straight guy who felt that hiv was a black/gay disease. Loads have changed since then. Globally, most hiv infections are in heterosexuals. That's a fact. HIV in women is on the rise, and I can almost assure you that they're not getting infected by the gay guys. We're doing their hair, but that's about it.

The problem is that most straight guys are not getting tested. They are only finding out when something is wrong, when they're already sick and have had it for a while. Also, when they find out, there is still a lot of shame associated with the disease. As a result, they don't come forward and get counted, thus throwing off the statisitcs.

Think about it...how many healthy, males in their 30s are really dying of 'pnemonia' in a develolped country in 2003?

Unprotected anal sex is risky. But gay guys aren't the only ones having anal sex. Straight couples play in the backyard too. So we shouldn't look at the people doing the act; we should look at the act itself as a risk. Any kind of unprotected sex is a risk. Believe me, I see loads of new cases every month -- mostly straight women who have had multiple unprotected partners.

We should stop all this straight/gay foolishness while we can and start promoting the truth. It's about sex. Unprotected sex. And the disease doesn't discriminate based on that.

I have hiv. I got it from one unprotected encounter. 45 seconds. That was it. Realied the condom wasn't on, freaked out -- but it was all over at that point.

Be smart, guys. Get laid. Have fun. But be smart.

PS. If there are any other built hiv guys out there with advice on how to get started on a solid routine, hit me up. I'm 30yo, 6'2", 210, buff, natural, solid. Undetectable VL. Always looking for new friends to kick it with and call on for advice about training, supplements and recreation. Check out my DJ website at www.ghettodisco.com.

blood transfusion at 2 days old back in 82. im 21 now. Just because I acquired the HIV/AIDS virus, it dosent change my sexually from hetero to homo. (although being a straight guy with HIV is quite a feat to live when youre tired of beating off your own jimmy but thats another story). The point is I could be any of you guys. I was positive for 16 years before I found out.

Getting tested isnt an option anymore. Its mandatory.

Fuck i had a big scare when i found out a chick, who i think i had unprotected sex with (to drunk to remember),found out she had aids.. Luckily i didnt. But what a reality check... Anyway one of my friends got it from his wife, she was sleeping around, what a fucking bitch... I dont know what i would do

It doesn't matter who wrote it, it's a peer-reviewed published article. It's not like someone made up the numbers...

(Not that I really believe the chances are really 1/10000.)
