How did SAF do?

Hey guys, the show was last night and it was a very long day that drained the hell out of me.

I competed in both the Open and Novice Division. In the Novice I placed 3rd in the middleweight class, and in the Open I didn't place at all in the top 5. Let me all tell you something. I looked harder, more defined, and more muscular than most of the dudes at the show. The middleweight who won 1st in my class was not a novice. He is currently on vacation in the New York area and decided to compete in this show. This guy was very muscular, much more than me, but he had a huge gut, and nothing on him was tight. But you can tell this guy has many competitions under his belt just by the way he moved in his routine. Everything was fluid and on point. Even the show coordinators backstage knew that he wasn't a novice. In terms of conditioning and hardness, I whipped his ass big time, but he had more muscle and I guess that all the judges cared about. In my opinion, the guy can easily compete as a national-level contender, but he's a trophy hound and he likes to complete against beginners and take trophies away from them, and in my opinion, that's pretty damn lame.

My trainer came to the prejudging show and he told me that everything I did was on point. My quarter turns, mandatory poses, etc. The guy that took 2nd in the novice middleweight looked good, but he had nothing on me. I was tigher, harder, more muscular, and yet they gave me third. I just dont get it. That's ok because I never got my hopes up for this show. Everyone around me and one this board said that I would clean house, but I knew deep down there was no guarantee of that because you simply dont know who you are competing against.

Ya know something? I'm sitting here making all these excuses for my placing, but even though it left a bad taste in my mouth, I'm very happy that I achieved my goal. I said that I would do this show, and I busted my ass for 5 month and did it. Who gives a shit, I still got a trophy, and I'm happy with it, really. Although I know that I couold do better, and I will because I'm probably competing in the Eastern USA Bodybuilding Show on November 2, which is also a National Qualifier, and I plan to kick some serious ass once I get there. No more modesty :D

Everyone was coming up to me and telling me how great I looked and they all asked how many times I've competed in the past. I told everyone that it was my first show and they could not believe me. My friends that were at the show later told me that every time I walked on stage people in the crowd were saying that there is no way this kid is a novice. Well, I'm glad to know that everyone else thought I looked great and not just me, so at least I know that my head was not playing games with me.

When I was backstage, I was lucky enough to be picked out by an ad scout from Cytodyne Technologies who told me that I have a great build, one that would be good for magazine ads for some of their products such as Xenadrine. So he gave me his card and told me to call him the next day, which I did because they pay up to $5000 per ad, what the hell.

I also met Jay Cutler at the show. I was leaning up against the wall backstage minding my own business. He walked by me and stared for a second, and then kept walking. Then he stopped, turned around and shook my hand! I said "What's up Jay!?" :D Nice guy, really, he was very friendly with all the competitors backstage.

The entire preparation for the show was a great experience that taught me many things, such as discipline, will power, how not to be a quitter, and how to cook better :D

It ain't over...

Just goes to show you how tough shows are...SAF,you have one of the best physiques I have ever seen on this site in terms of symmetry/hardness.You have a true genetic gift.Keep at it and you will be crowned champion soon enough.

You're absolutely right, Huck. These shows are not easy. They really make you work for that trophy. One kid on stage nearly passed out because he was so dehydrated and he asked the stage manager for some water, and quick! Between water restrictions the day of the show, waiting hours to get on stage, then getting on stage and letting the judges beat the shit out of you, it can really takes its toll on your body. I was practically starving once prejudging was over, at nearly 4PM!! I had not eaten anything since 10:30AM! Next time I'll bring more food with me, that's for sure.

Mad props to you SAF it sounds like you had some tuff competition. As long as you're happy with yourself and the effort you put forth that's all that matters bro, that's much more rewarding than a trophy...

Congrats SAF. Not too shabby for your first competition.

Such a subjective sport. When it shouldn't be. We all saw how ripped and hard you looked weeks ago. You probably looked like a rock. I wonder if you took second or first on any of the judges cards.

Did you get a chance to speak to the judges? Maybe ask why they gave that guy second and you third.

Again ...you looked great bro.

It's not always about winning, even though it's nice sometimes.

I'm glad everything went great bud, you sure worked your ass off to be where you are. You'll gain from this experience.

I guarantee you that.

Damn bro that sucks. Fuck them, kick their ass next time.:D

do you have comp pics? or can someone post a link if they are online?

look saf you are not gonna want to hear this, but you are probably gonna have to sacrific some of those cuts and the hardness for more massive muscualrity. that is just how the npc goes...they arent looking for a model. they are looking for the guy with the most muscularity....no matter what his midsection looks like. hopefully someday it will change!

midsection is important, but i agree about more size being the name of the game, but you do have very tight waiste so you have that much room for addind size and not worrying about your waste falling out of proportion

SAF bro, #1 congrats!

#2 ..get used to the bullshit politics 'cause it only gets worse! Was this the Bev Franics show? If so my buddy was RAPED last yr...he was hands down the best on stage out of every class...255lbs and shredded to the bones, no GH gut, 28/29 inch waist, TOTAL package...but they gave it some some schmuck 36yr old who’s been "doing the show for years" as Steve Weinbreiner(sp?) told my buddy back stage after the show...Steve said "look its your 1st show, you are only 23, this guy has been doing the show for years, your time will come" well that disgusted my boy and he hasn’t competed since! Even the guy who won the show came up to my boy and said "this is YOUR trophy".

Scum bag politics..and you wonder why I dont compete no more.

Good luck SAF..is the eastern show on Nov 2nd in NY as usual?

Yeah, the Eastern USA show is in New York on November 2nd. I've got just about 5 months to prepare for it, and considering all the hardness and conditioning I have at the moment to build on, I can make my body look 10 times better in 5 months. I am determined to do better at the Eastern USA show. This will be another goal for me, and since I proved myself the first time around, which was either a make me or break me run as far as body building was concerned, I know I can do it again. I made a few mistakes, and I wrote them all down onm paper. I wont make them again.

Until the next time...:D

Good way to look at it bro..

You definately have a lot to build on from this. You are now twice as expereinced than you were before you did the show.

You have a great build and your hard work will pay off, just keep at it!!

SAF, I am currently off juice and eating donuts and KFC. I am about your height, age, skin tone and bone-structure though. Please contact Cytodyne and tell them you have a "before" picture lined up. I will eat a few meat lovers pizzas, not shave for a few days, muss up my hair, frown, and we are set.
