How come "They can never take your education away from you"

We always hear about they can take away all sorts of things but they can never take your education away. Why? Why cant they say "you are hereby stripped of your college degree, sorry".
What is the reasoning behind this?
("they", meaning whoever has the authority to punish in any capacity be it governments or whoever)
I always thought it was strange that no matter what the offense of someone "they can never take your education"

I've never heard this saying. At least not that I can remember. :worried:
must be an old saying because my grandparents used to lay it on me before i decided to go back to school "go get yourself an education because they can never take that away from you"

I think they simply meant any knowledge/experience you gain from said education.

I knew that much but I meant why cant anyone have their college degree revoked after they graduated just like any sort of license or similar

It is something earned and payed for. I suppose if things got bad enough they could change standards of the degree's worth itself.

They were not talking about the piece of paper necessarily, but moreso the KNOWLEDGE that you were supposed to have acquired.

People who were denied the ability to further themselves because of their lack of access to a formal education put a very high paramount on the acquisition of such an education and understandably so.

I tell my girls the same thing but phrase it a bit differently.

I tell them, "Why would you WANT to limit yourself?

Here are two life delimas:

1. You have ten doorways ahead of you, all ten wide open with people beckoning you to choose theirs.

2. Ten doors, nine of them sealed shut and one open a tiny crack that you need to work hard to pry open.

If you go to school then you can be ANYTHING you want to be. Why would you waste that opportunity and replace it with unnecessary struggle?

Just doesn't make sense... does it?"
