How bad is it to do cardio immediately after weights? Any big guys do this?

I always have a shake right after lifting. If I had to do cardio on that day I would prob split session and come in early or something. I know of people that try to lose weight by doing that but its hard not to get catabolic when you train then do cardio. I would change around your split so that you have a couple days with either no lifting, or something small like biceps/calves/abs and do cardio on those days.

The problem is after weight training your fast twitch muscle is depleted so this is the time when you should be filling up with qigh quality protein and carbs to get the growing started. If you head out and do cardion, what little glucose you have in your blood stream will go to fueling slow twitch fibers as you jog(or whatever) around. I for one feel it would be detrimental to overall growth since you are not taking advantage of the window to fuel the muscles after a workout.

i find that i actually get my best gains when i do about 40 minutes of cycling after my workout. not only does it take off some fat, but it also promotes growth. quite ironic but i think for me it has to do with glycogen store depletion followed by glycogen loading in the evening. that way, my muscles actually become supersaturated with carbs, and excess carbs go to stores rather than fat. marathon runners and other high endurance athetes practice depletion/loading routines prior to competition. i do it 5 days a week when i'm bulking, and i grow faster/get leaner (depending on overall calorie intake) than if i just head home right after the gym and eat.

I suppose it would depend on your goals. Many athletes lift before a workout, although if both workouts are intense, you probably shouldn't do that for longer than two weeks or so.

I like to lift, then do a couple 500m sprints on a rowing machine. Although I'm more of an athlete than a bodybuilder now.

IMO, it makes sense to do cardio right after lifting only if you are cutting. You will achive same or may be even better effect then doing cardio first thing in the morning. Most important is not to overdo it.

but doens't doing any kind of cardio do that to you? especially if you're doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach right?

Rule of thumb is if you want to loose lbs.....do it 1st thing in the morn or on an empty stomach.

After weights always worked well for me. Muscles 1st then the heart....then a big massive ass shake when it's all through.

I, too, enjoy a good ass shaking after a workout.

Makes me feel manly.
