I have been on a cutting diet for a little over a week now. The first day I lost all my water weight (10lbs) and after that, I started GAINING weight. My bf% has gone down 2% (I tested it using caliphers) so it makes no sense that I should be gaining weight. I am sure some of it is water weight, but it does not look like I am holding much water. My viens are showing and I am starting to get ripped so it can't all be water. I have also noticed that my muscles are getting bigger. I am not eating hardly enough protien or calories for any kind of muscle growth. Can anyone explain this?

Diet:
500kc below maintance
Most fat is from 20g Fish Oil
150g+ carbs (from cereal)
100g+ protien (from MRP and milk)

Supplements:
1g Usnic Acid
6 ECA
20g Fish Oil
5g ALA

Training:
Just as intense as if I were bulking with an added cardio session every morning.

if youre gaining weight ... youre eating too much. to lose weight ... you need to burn more calories than you eat. eat some veggies. i dont think the 'as intense' workout is needed. but then again, i dont know much about cutting yet. so ask around.

if you dropped all your "water weight" due to decreased carbs and then slowly brought them back up a bit, you would gain back some weight as stored glycogen and water. 1g of carbohydrate can tie up 2-4 gm of water. hence the carb loading scheme that bb'ers do prior to a show. trust me...im in depletion right now and my weight went down a bit in just 2 days, im anxiously anticipating that reflux of weight on wednesday with reintroduction of CARBS!!! hehehe.

even if you percieve your protein demands to be low, they are probably still adequate for recovery and a bit of growth. timing of meals plays a big role in the possibility of some LBM gain on a cutting program. so there is a possibility there too. regardless of the calories in/ calories out (which i follow/preach) there can be anomolies from day to day.

don't be conerned with why !

I'm cutting and gaining LBM also, but I also eat every 2 hours and sit on the couch when I'm not at the gym.

how much do you weigh man?? 100g of protein is damn near nothing, and you are real low on the carbs as well.

I weigh 198lbs currently. I probably should be eating more protein, but with the ECA, I really can't bring myself to eat all that much. That's why I have 3-4 bowls of cereal a day instead, it pretty much provides all the basic needs.

I know reintroducing carbs into your body causes the body to store it, but wouldn't the ALA stop this from happening?

Well, I guess I shouldn't complain either way :D

I just took the time to count your cals. only 1180 ! WTF ???

that is WAY to low, who took your body fat measurement ? it can't be correct, you should be losing some major LBM.

avg cereal 1 cup ~200 cals.

no one eats just one cup....hehehe.

nonfat milk 80 cals per 8 oz.

noone uses 8 oz. more like 12.

so bare minimum with cereal he is hitting just over 1000 cals with cereal.

throw a few sandwiches or some rice and chicken and it could be in the low 2000's.

its well known that people tend to underestimate what they eat and overestimate what they do. (insider fitness field factoid :) )

hope that sheds some light on the calorie discrepency.
