Homemade Capsaicin Cream

I'm sure many if not all of you use or depend on Capsicain cream (hot pepper linament). Anyway the stuff is way too expensive,
usually $10 to $15 for a small tube. So I dug up a Homemade Version. Give it a shot if you want, its cheap and easy to make.

HOMEMADE CAPSAICIN CREAM
This will make a lotion, but you can make a cream by adding 6 oz. of melted beeswax to the warm, strained oil. Stir thoroughly and
shake the bottle until cool.

8 to 10 oz. habanero chiles, chopped with the seeds

1 qt. olive oil

Combine the ingredients and bring to a slow boil. Reduce heat and simmer very gently for 4 hours. Let cool for 4 hours. Repeat this
procedure 2
more times. Place the mixture in a blender and blend on high for 20 seconds. Strain the mixture through a sieve that has been lined
with muslin (or pantyhose) and place in small bottles.

Makes 8 4oz. containers of lotion or cream. Variation: you can also enhance the formula by
adding 40 drops of lavender oil to the strained lotion.

Peace,

If this works...it would help me out greatly. ZostrixHP has been the ONLY thing to take the pain out of my elbows but it is very $$.

It should work. The capsaicin is an oil, so it should go into solution with the olive oil. We did something very similar to this in my highschool Chemistry III class. Of course, we werent trying to make a cream to put on your body. We were using it to determine the capsaicin content of several sort of peppers.

Another note- If you have never handled habaneros before, be extremely careful. They are very hot. Don't touch your eyes or lips. You will regret it. Gloves are usefull if you are very sensitive, but not necessary.

yo B,

I hear you, I am tired of paying like $12 to $15 for a small a$$ tube at the drug store. My very first tube lasted because the smallest amount was a 4 alarm fire, but I always apply it to the same place so now I can glob it on and handle it no problem. When you frequently rub it on the same areas, you do build up a tolerance to it.

I'm going to try it this weekend and see how it comes out. Habeneros peppers are usually around 79 cents a pound depending where you live.

The instructions are very time consuming probably about 12 hours to make, but your not making a 1 use supply, your making 3 bottles.

Zack,

good call. People I forgot to mention, Habeneros are no joke, wash your hands, be careful, no hands in the eyes or any mucus membranes.

Everyone, you could wait until I test this if your concerned, I dont mind being a guinea pig.

Good luck felllas.

Everybody try looking at your local Tractor Supply Center (TSC) or Farm and Fleet kinda store for a product called Equi-Tite it contains the perfect linament and gets very hot, also for non capsaicin try Blue Heat with menthol, Equitite is like $15-16 for 16oz instead of 10 for 1oz at Krogers and it lasts along time.

Sorry DB,

I'm in Brooklyn, New York....we don't even know what a tractor looks like. Shit we dont even have much grass around here. Its a concrete jungle.

But thanks for pitching in.

Peace,
Mike

We had someone post a recipe for homeade tiger balm on my board- he sent me a sample and its good, although he said he'd like to make it hotter.
Mike, thanks for posting your recipe on there too. I'll see if i can find the tiger balm recipe and post it here.

Thank you for posting this recipe, I have periferal neuropathy and the pain can be hard to live with and also hard to sleep with. I have heard that at times the chili cream can be painful on the skin and you need to get used to it because the benefits far outway the pain of the chili at the beginning. I do have a question, I have a habanero paste, for eating I have to check but I think it has mainly water and habanero maybe some salt and stuff, would it be ok to put that through a muslin/stocking as habaneros are not easy to get here. Also the creams already made up are very pricy comming in at about $35 for a few ounces, I live in south australia.
