Plan is to follow HIT training by mentzer but now nothing so far. Just doing light weights. How to switch from regular workout to HIT?

I really don't know what's the confusion here. You just transition from one training program to another.
If you are newer to that style of training and level of intensity I would recommend taking it a bit easier at the beginning. Otherwise it's gonna be such a huge shock to your body it will probably f up the rest of your week's training days.
No, I think it takes 20 days to rotate through his split. I believe in Heavy Duty he trained one day then took 4 to 7 days off then had another training day. I could be wrong because last time I read this was in 2005 or something.
