Help needed in building a dip station

Coldshot

New member
Hey guys,

I finally found someone who can build me a simple dip station. But i'm not too sure abt the dimensions though.

1.) I'm 5'10. Should i have it high enough so that i dont have to bent my legs?

2.) How thick should the bars be for optimum grip?

3.) Should i built 2 separate bars so that i can adjust the width and angle? Or one with a fixed width?

Thanks

Are you going to be using regular pipe and threading it together or welding it? I would say most dip stations have roughly 2" in diameter pipe. You could used threaded pipe and it would be as easy as unscrewing one pipe and screwing on another to adjust width.

I'm planning to use regular pipe (aluminuim?) and weld it to the the base. Was toying with the idea of 2 separate bars so that i can adjust the angle. might be easier on the wrists when working chest.

What do you think?

How shld the base be for strong support?

The dip machine at my gym has about a 1-inch diameter grip and it kills!!! my hand. The two inch or so grip is better. Plus, i prefer the parallel bars, the dip bars at my gym are angles towards each other and i dont much care for it. But i guess that is more personal pref. than anything else...

Think about a V shaped bar so that your grip can be adjusted. You would just need a slight angle in your "comfort zone" this way you would not get too used to one positon.
Also I`ve done dips with having to hold my feet up and it sucks. If you have the option go with the full length. (I have a low basement)
