oh my

yes, you just gave me hawaiian wood... and you know that damn tele sound has me by my childhood dreams... wow...

I ever show you this? If a friend of some extraodinary means ever wanted to give me a piece of art that could produce art of its own... you know, this may be one of the only material things i even think the term 'covet' applies too... LMAO!!

THIS is some koa that brings tears to the beholder:

Is that a real Weisenborn or a modern replica?

Speaking of which, did you ever get yourself a Hawaiian slide guitar? I know you were looking and posted a thread once.

Replica, but that term doesnt do Bearcreek much service. Made in Hawaii and fan-fucking-tastic guitars.. really

and yep, i got a guitar i had been looking for YEARS...

Wow, an electric hollow-neck resonator, that's an interesting combination of features.

but how good does it play

Probably like butter. It's a new model, slated to debut in January, the one in the photo is probably the first pre-production prototype. Retail price will be "under $1000" which means it's probably made at either their Mexican or Japanese assembly site, not in California. That doesn't much matter anymore, the Mexican and Japanese made ones are great, and even the cheaper Korean models are getting really good now.

db, did you check those video samplers of that Beard? pretty cool, no?

On a completely unrelated note, I had a good friend in college from Hawaii who's name was Koa.

And I'm not kidding.

Yeah, those were fun. I like the sound of the instrument both ways.

That shirt is a disaster though.

Also on an unrelated note in HS I had a friend that was Laotion and my step father would always refer to him as that Hawaian guy. LOL

Scots, you hit any of those viddy sample links? check the guy on the England Resonator link and him playing the goldtone... great shit.. truely inpired music from on man and a guitar. Depth of emotion defines a lot of that style of fingerstyle dobro, pretty amazing stuff.

I thought I was gonna climb the wall when the Gold Tone sample started, because of the tuning problems. I'm glad he TRIED to fix it, but he still didn't get it. Great sounding instrument though.

The metal-body resonator guitar is lovely. My own personal preference is for less ornamentation (dot inlays, no binding...) but that's some nice workmanship.

I still want to find a nice D-18, J-45 or Epi Texan, but vintage flattops have been getting awfully expensive. When I was in college a good friend of mine had a 1941 D-28 herringbone with the zigzag inlay down the back and open-gear tuners. I looked at a few online dealers the other day and those are going for $28,000 and up now.

given a key to the vault, i would go for a d-28, a Weiss' Style #4 or a 1927 Natty Tricone style #1.... yep.. that'll do fine... really the Square neck '27 would be my first choice for sentimental reasons...

oh, when is your birthday again? LOL!!!

Be interesting to see how bidding goes on that post-war D-28. I see they've already saved me the effort of having to install a strap lug on the heel of the neck.

I have found some MASSIVE axe bargains on ebay... and sold some too easily, i do regret..

Like my 'Brown Mound of Sound': National Polychrome Tricone Barritone, 27" scale length, i was running .15-.72 on that tuned to open D... oh my that was one throaty, whiskey voiced, harmonic, cinnamon cream love machine....

bought it for 1600 and sold it for 2200... should have held onto that feckin thing.. but i got Ebay profit fever and the rest is history...
