Has anyone ever bought a vehicle on eBay?

Any success stories? Horror stories? You obviously dont get to test drive the car, but damn, some of those are deals that are 25-50% off the price a dealer would want.

I'd be leary of doing such a purchase on E-bay!

Besides, I'd like to be able to go back to the dealer and be allll up in his face if there WAS a problem with the car I bought.

They offering warranties with the E-Bay cars?

I'd say that over half the cars on eBay are probably being sold by dealerships. Some of them do offer warranties. Others have a CarFax report done, and sometimes CarFax will offer a warranty.

But then of course there are private owners, and with them its up in the air.

Hmmm....Interesting! If the dealers are offering warranties the cars must be new or still have soemthing left on the warranty.

I'd be VERY leary of the private sector selling their cars on E-Bay.

I'm trying to think of the site that tells you the history of a car via the VIN #. Is that Carfax?

i bought one of my current cars, a '66 mustang, from an expired ebay auction.

i flew to little rock, AR to look at the car. it was exactly as described in the auction, an olderrestoration, still in excellent shape. i bought it that day and drove it from little rock to new orleans with no problems.

like everything on ebay, some prices are good, some are..........not so good. you must do your homework!

A friend sold his Fiata on eBay. He paid $2000 for 8 years ago and got $5500 from a woman in NYC.

Here is the kicker. She didn't want her husband to know she was buying this car. So she did it secret. Had a flat bed tow truck to come here and pick it up. Car was a piece of shit. Outside and inside was PERFECT, mechanically - Satan would not have owned it. She had to wait until her husband went to bed to drive it, drove it 8 miles and it overheated and the engine exploded. In a bad neighborhood. She started walking home and was mugged. Slapped around. Had a passerby to take her home and when she got home and her husband was up looking for her. She gets out of a strange car, her hair and clothes all messed up - he thinks she is out fucking around on him. So he slaps her around. She ends up stabbing him and sending him to the ER. Week later, after all the shit is settled down, they decide to sue my friend for causing all this trouble.

They lost.

That's just a fucked up situation! Funny story!

i packed a flashlight and a tool kit and spare parts (hoses, belts, points and plugs, duct tape) in my luggage (pre 911 time), made sure my AAA card was current, had an open ended return plane ticket just in case the car didn't look as promised, was wary the whole drive home, but the mustang drove like the thorughbred it is. (i did get tired of the horn honking and peeps waving and changing lanes to check the car out, it was a long drive back home.)

kinda felt sorry for the seller; his wife told him either the mustang was leaving or he was. he had spent a LOT of time and money and effort (TOO much, from his wife's point of view) on the car in the 4 years he oned it ; he took a financial beating on it.

that was 19 months ago, am still enjoying my ebay purchase.

That was a true story. My friend had to pay a lawyer $3000 to represent him in court in NYC to get this dismissed, so his profit was gone.

Bentley owners are famous for immaculate care of their cars so I feel perfectly comfortable when I augment my Bentley collection with pieces from ebay. Plus I dried up the local supply of them.

I just purchased an H2 on Ebay last week, it got delivered today and then I sold it for 15K profit.

Is that what you'd like to believe??? :) I bet many of the autos sold on there have been in accidents... refurbs... probably some bad mojo... Easy way to hide the flaws... sell it on Ebay!

I saw a 70 LeSabre convertible for 4800 once. Beautiful condition. Beautiful car. If I had that much money to throw away, it'd be in my driveway right now.

only problem is you can't test the cars out. Try autotrader.com, usually there is a dealership within 150 miles that sells way below blue book value. I bought a truck for 60% of blue book at a dealership 60 miles away that i found on autotrader.
