Good time to cut?

I want to start a cut sometime before the summer... but am not sure if when the best time is to start? When I do it, it'll be after football season, so about mid way through October. I've never cut before, so bare with me folks! :supercool

I still want to get stronger, and put on more muscle, but I also want to get rid of excess fat. But would it be a better idea to bulk for the winter, and cut in the spring so I'll be shredded for the summer?

Also what should I be expecting as far as diet and workout is concerned? Will my workout change at all, or just diet?

Again, never cut before, so any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks folks! :qt:

You have alot of questions, but you have come to the right site. Gaining muscle while losing fat is the holy grail of bodybuilding. As far as what you "should do", that is all up to you. You do hear alot about bulking in the winter. I tended to do that when I lived in a climate that got cold because I figured fewer people would see my body cause I would be wearing warm clothes all the time. You can change up everything when you move towards cutting if you choose. Typically you will have shorter rest periods between sets, and you will be looking to decrease your calories, particularly those from carbs. I've gotten good results (kept muscle while gaining definition) from carb cycling programs like Lyle McDonalds. Do a thorough search of the forums here for cutting diets and training for definition. When you find somethings you like you can post them for the guys to tweak for you. Make sure you post your stats, including age and bf%, and goals. Then you can lock down a program that is right for you.
