Going to see a friend in the hospital- crashed his vette through a fence, barbed wire

A guy that always comes out to our bar and whoops it up. Big, really nice dude. Somewhere in his early thirties, owns his own business, and is engaged.

He was letting a buddy drive his 'vette and he was riding shotgun. Apparently, they lost control around a curve or something and went through a barbed wire fence. I guess he wasn't buckled up and bounced up out of the seat when they went through the fence, and that they tore through the lower strands of wire, but the top strand of wire caught him in the mouth when he bounced up and sliced him like a cheese cutter all the way back through both sides of his cheeks and through his sinus cavities and eustacian tubes in the back of his throat. It separated where his jaw hinges together and totally destroyed his sinuses. He also bit off part of his tongue and may not be able to speak right again. The driver was fine.

I'm glad the wire didn't come in a few inches lower and decapitate him, but I'm hesitant to say, "He's lucky." It sounds like one fucked up injury that he sustained.

I'm going with the bar owner and one of the bartenders to see him in the hospital today after work.

Bad shit.

Actually, more importantly, wear a setbelt at all times. Also, don't let your friend drive your 'vette.

they can do amazing things these days in the field of medicine. i hope they can repair the damage and get him as close to normal as possible - although, it sounds like he did some extensive damage.

the most important thing, is that he still has his life.

I was wondering about the same things.

I don't know if he'll want to see us or not, but it can't be a bad thing to know that people actually give a shit about you.

As far as the fiancee, I don't know. We'll see.
