today was squat day for my roommate and me. my roommate was working up in weight and was doing a set with 185. well, at the bottom of one of his reps, the weight on one side hit a pin at the lowest level and bounced the weight back (yes more of a bounce 'cause we got gay rubber coated weights). all i saw was my roommate squat down and from the bottom position fall completely back. he wasn't able to move because the bar was pinned between his back and the vertical bars at the front of the squat rack. it took a whole second or two before i grabbed the bar and picked it up off his back just because the event was totally unexpected. i was worried he would have messed up his back, but i guess the relatively light weight coupled with the fact he came down only from the bottom of the rep made it alright. he did smash his right hand though (it got pinned between the bar and the squat rack). some advil will take care of that though.
my squat day wasn't as great as i hoped it to be...mostly 'cause the weight i'm using is the most i've ever put on the bar to squat, so it just feels really heavy. i did a couple "sets" of rack-outs with weight greater than my work sets just to get used to holding heavier weight on my back. calves went pretty well though.
