Getting from Here to There

Hey guys....this is part introducing myself, part rant, and part diet question....

Like most of you, I've got this idea in my head of what I wanna look like, and I'm not even close. I've done tons of research, and I think I'm at that point where I've done TOO MUCH....and I'm lost. Buried in conflicting info, it all gets too complicated, and I give up.

I'm 38, 5'11", and just weighed in at 168.4. I started lifting maybe 12 years ago, and I can remember being under 150 at that time. So I've made some progress, but not nearly as much as I should, and I know it's due to a crap diet. I always relied on my metabolism to keep me lean, but in the last year or so, I think age and bad diet have caught up to me, and I'm starting to look "softer" around the middle than I want!

I'm guessing I'm sitting at about 15% body fat, and I'm totally lost on whether I should try to keep putting on size at all costs, or whether I should take a step back, try to lean out, and then jump back into building up.

The picture in my head of where I want to be puts me at about 215 with just under 10% bf, so you can see I've got a long way to go. The guys I see who look the way I want to are mostly juicing I think, and I'm all for it, but don't think I've got the fundamentals down yet before going down that road. But given my current stats, I don't know which route to take to get myself set up for the kind of success I want to see. And even if I did know, I feel like I'm lost on the best, simplest way to get there. I can read the food labels and do the math on the macros, but keep coming across conflicting info on how much of each.....

Sorry for the ramble....been reading this site off and on for years, feeling frustrated, and lost right now. Hoping some of you guys check in and say hi. Would be cool to hook up with a few guys who know how all this stuff works and can steer me out of the weeds.

Thanks.....

JD

It takes a large amount of maturity to say you're not ready for anabolics! Shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to set you in the right direction :)
